Surgery Question - Post Op Stomach Pain

Recommended Posts

My VSG surgery is 1 week away and I'm generally okay/excited about it. BUT, I do have one nagging question that I can't shake: what will the stomach pain be like when I wake up?

For those of you who have had VSG already, what types of sensations or pain were you having afterward? Could you feel the titanium sutures in your stomach? If so, does this subside? Does your stomach ever go back to feeling neutral/like it used to before surgery (other than the "full" sensation, which I know will be higher than before surgery)? Thanks for sharing your experience!

I never had any pain at at all in my stomach or incision sites. I did not take any pain meds. Now the gas pain is horrible and it made nauseous so I did take anti nausea meds. I recommend walking, it really moves the gas out of you. I felt like I was giving birth through my mouth[emoji15]

My stomach feels normal, I just don't get hungry. At the beginning you may feel something that feels like you are hungry but it is acid. I was told to take Pepcid Complete twice a day. It works, the feeling goes away. My stomach only feels full after I finish a 1/4 cup of food, I'm two months out.

Each person is different. I had no stomach pain or excess gas. However, I've had more acid indigestion than some others. Good luck!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
