Not losing weight but losing my mind

Okay so i know everyone has gone through the stalls but i can not seem to get out of this. Any suggestions will help already spoke to nutritionist and doc they say it happens been at same weight for a month and two weeks. Starting weight 391 sw 375 cw 295 surgery date 12/5/16. Daily calories 1000 to 1200 carbs nut says about 60, Protein 80, i walk daily for fifty min.

@doxaholicI've never tried it, but the Krispy Kreme or KFC fix has been discussed for a long time. Anything that will trigger loose stools. Google it.

For some people 60g of carbs could be a problem. Maybe try lowering that to 30 for a few days and see what happens.

I definitely wouldn't want to induce diarrhea and the cramping that goes with it! OMG, I can't even imagine doing that on purpose! (Having recently had a couple days of it after surgery)

Like Apple1's suggestion, maybe lowering your carbs or trying some different exercise. Changing up your exercise every so often can be good. When I was fit(ish) in the past, I used to love Zumba and lost a lot of weight at first. When I couldn't get past my stall, someone recommended some weight training to build more muscle because it burns calories faster. I joined some folks doing crossfit and started losing again.

I had RNY whereas you had DS, so the following advise may or may not fit.

One thing to do now at this stage is to assess your Protein intake. Your daily protein requirement is met by a combination of the amount of protein you obtain from food combined with the amount of protein from protein supplements (protein shakes, protein bars). Right after gastric bypass surgery, the volume of food you consume is minuscule (2 ounces) per meal. But as you get further along, the meal volume increases. Therefore you have a very important option available to you. As a result, you can begin to reduce your reliance on Protein Shakes. I went from 3 a day, down to 2, down to 1 and eventually none when I reached 1 cup per meal at a year and a half post-op.

This is important because protein shakes contain calories. If you can reduce your caloric intake, then you can end a stall. At least that was the approach that I used and it worked for me.

I wish a long term DS person would show up here and answer @doxaholic

DS people can and do need to eat a lot more than other WLS patients because of their malabsorption, and they need to, to counter that malabsorption. That is why people like having DS.

You should up your calories and your Protein. With the level of malabsoprtion you have, you shouldn't be eating less than 120G of protein a day. You also need a higher amount of fat. You don't really have to worry about carbs because of your malabsorption.

Please do a google search, there are other forums with more active DS patients where you could get better and more accurate advice. The nutritional needs for DS patients are totally different than other WLS patients because of the extreme malabsorption levels you have.

Please ask some long term DS patients.

You haven't mentioned your Vitamin regimen or your latest labs. Your labs have to be carefully monitored with DS

My local surgeon also mentioned 120g of Protein for DS patients.

I agree with Outside. Eat more food, and look for more info pertaining to DS patients.

Also, you should be under 50 gr./carb/day if you wish to lose. I eat more Protein & drink more when I'm trying to lose.

Post op wow that is an interesting approach thanks for the info and i agree on carbs but i dont know why my nut has me on them so high weird i know. Thanks for the response. Ill have to try and see i guess.

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

      Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
