This is great knowledge! I am over 6 months out and have been running about 4 days a week. I just recently gained 3 pounds but went down another size! I assume its muscle but i dont want to go backwards in weight....

Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

If you're losing inches and gaining, it is indeed muscle. Great job! That's the kind of "losing" that changes the physique.

I breathed into a machine (fasting) for about 20 min at the Dr's office, and the machine measures CO2 levels and others aspects of my breath. I did it before at the University of Utah with similar results.

That's interesting. I stand on a scale and it calculates my BMR but I'm a little skeptical. I'm pretty sure a true testing of it includes more than a scale.

When I am tested at the University mine is similar I lay on the table with a tent over my face. The most boring 30 minutes of life.

I wish my RMR was 2400, how I could feast.:lol:

Over 40 years ago, I was gaining weight and decided to exercise and burn it off. So I started jogging. After a few weeks, I worked myself up to 10 miles per day. Instead of losing weight, I actually started gaining weight. This was because I was replacing my fat with muscle and muscle weighs more.

im so tired of hearing fat weighs more than muscle when the reality is a pound is a pound. now a pound of fat takes up more room than a pound of muscle (150lbs of fat looks way different han 150lbs of muscle) its still the same 150lbs.

FYI I did that Metabolic testing about 2 years ago and it said I need 2700 calories a day and 3700 calories when I exercise. If I'm hitting 1200 now Ill be amazed.

the tent sounds better than my endocrinologists's machine. I had to breathe through my mouth into a tube while making sure to keep my mouth firmly sealed around the tube, and with clips pinching my nose closed. not fun - lol.

How often do you get retested? Not including the period of high weight loss, has it continued to change much?

I have the same problem. I spend 2-3 hrs in the gym 3-5 days a week or if I can't go to the gym I workout at the house pretty much the same amount of time. I've being in a stall for almost two months now and they sent me to eat every two hrs and I simply can't put all that food in my stomach. They told me I've being burning the double of calories I'm consuming. And is so frustrating bc I don't want any batwings or anything hanging in my body.

I will take your advice and do less days and try to eat more. Let's see if I brake this stall.

Lots of theories, but my team wants me to work out 4-5 times a week, 20 min high intensity cardio and 20-30 light lifting.
The idea is to increase metabolism. I think the biggest keys are to do what you want while maintaining balance. Becoming addicted to the workout isn't really healthy or sustainable for most.

While technically speaking a pound of fat is the same weight as a pound of muscle, thats not really what folks are saying when they say 'muscle weighs more than fat'. Because the scale shows them weighing more even tho they've lost fat. So i guess the better statement instead would be 'the muscle theyve gained weighs more than the fat theyve lost'. But thats just mincing words. We all know what is happening and what is meant when someone says 'muscle weighs more than fat'. No need to be irritated because they werent all scientific about their explanation, right?

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
