Has anyone had any experience with Dr. Luis Cervantes from Mexico Bariatrics ? My surgery is set for May 8th and I'm nervous.

Dr. Luis Cervantes had a patient death about three weeks ago at Hospital Guadalajara in Tijuana. I suggest looking for another surgeon. There are quite a few good ones in Mexico! No need to put your life at risk.

May I ask what your source of information is. I researched this doctor and facility and the company associated with them for a year. I couldnt find anything wrong. Please share your info with me.

Thanks

I'm in Tijuana at the moment and I'm normally here every month. The TJ Bariatric surgeons and nurses know one another and nothing happens without the entire town knowing about it, especially a patient fatality. I just called two surgeons to double confirm and I'm 100% this occurred. All I know is the patient passed away. I don't have details about the complication(s) that occurred.

I talked with Eduardo Zompa and the Hospital Guadalajara and they both said that there have been no deaths occurring at their facilities or with Dr. Luis Cervantes who does Bariatric surgery through Mexico Bariatrics.

You mean Eduardo Zonta. He's currently Dr. Luis Cervantes's personal assistant.

Eduardo Zonta used to be Dr. Carlos Altamirano's personal assistant.

It's a small world......Dr. Cervantes used to be Dr. Altamirano's surgical assistant.

Hospital Guadalajara is covering up this death as they've covered up Dr. Altamirano's patient deaths at the same facility.

Please don't select your bariatric surgeon based on price. I suggest doing more research before selecting your surgeon.

I was really wanting to go with him, but the thing that turned me off is he does not speak English. That really makes me nervous for some reason.

If you look at it another way, maybe HE'S the one nervous because we dont speak Spanish !!

Dr. Cervantes is an excellent, caring doctor and he has his own Facebook page as he is no longer associated with Mexico Bariatrics. I don't regret my decision for even one moment. I just regret not doing it earlier. Let me tell you something tho. Please, when asking other surgeons or asking advice about other surgeons be aware that even on this forum, the doctors smack talk each other. One doctor on this forum told me that the hospital I was going to and Dr. Cervantes had just had a death on the table. I heavily investigated it and found it to be a lie. The smack talker doctor that told me that also told me not to have surgery based on price. I researched for a year and a half before deciding on Dr. Cervantes, and I did a lot of praying. I am so happy with my choice. Dr Cervantes has a great translator and a great team.

I agree 1000%. Dr Luis Cervantes is simply the best. My Surgery was May 8th 2017. I’m down 50 lbs and kept it off. I love that doc and would do it all over again. He is wonderful !!!

As a nurse, who has practiced 33 years, If this, Dr who I am scheduled to have surgery with on June 13th, has only had 1 death then I am all the more comfortable. Thats a small percentage of the amount of surgeries he performs. Also, he is caring for 100% obese patients who are unhealthy for the most part when they walk in the door. Things are going to happen. I pray for Gods grace and mercy for my scheduled surgery coming up but 1 death does not constitute changing doctors..

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
