Cranky pants is cranky.

Recommended Posts

I'm currently going through the preop process. I met with a nutritionist at the beginning of last week, and she wanted me to practice the post op diet.. pretty much what I'll be eating from 3 months out of surgery and for the rest of my life. The plan is to meet next Monday and hopefully, I'll be done with all my pre-op requirements.

I'm trying. I started gradually decreasing my fat and sugar intake, threw out massive amounts of food that I will not be eating, stocked up on Protein shakes. It's going ok, but I am SO cranky. I get that detoxing off sugar can make a person snippy, I just think it's a combination of sugar detox, having to change my eating pattern, reflecting on my history of poor food choices, and mourning. I gotta say, I am not a fun person to be around right now. I'm determined to get through it, but for now I feel like I need to warn people. :72_imp:

Good for you! It's great that you are taking the process seriously, AND you realize you are having a reaction to it. Super!

I cried all the time on the preop diet. Stuff messes with your head, man!

I DEFINITLY got snippy here and there. Especially when prepping meals for my family-lol

But dont mourn the food. I watch a girl on You Tube for months now (funny though not since my op) who had "food funerals" before her operation. Like this is the last time I'll have pizza or the last time I'll have...whatever. She is a year plus out now and says that's one of her regrets. She went into the surgery thinking she could NEVER have certain things and feels now that she was looking at it the wrong way.

She is very honest and had a year update where she kinda called herself out on "knowing everything" a few weeks and months into her surgery and says she has learned so much through her process. Search "made up momma". She is funny and easy to listen to.

I didn't know about this site until right around my surgery. This is a great forum with experienced people, but I do like to grab a few You Tube videos. They are not all success stories. I went in knowing that this isn't a cure all. My relationship with food has to change. The relationship with my husband and I turned into revolving around food, that has to change. But you learn a lot about yourself when you see yourself in others sometimes.

shake it off and keep on going!! Do something to reward yourself. I started getting my nails done again. I used to do them only 6 times a year (give or take) and now I make a point to go twice a month. I'm not spending nearly as much on food, so why not?

Hahahahaha understatement for me. For the first couple months:

Question: "How are you today buddy?"

Answer: "I'll kill your whole damn family if you don't leave me the f**k alone!"

Getting my nails done is an excellent idea, thank you for suggesting it!

Ugh.. I am almost certain I'm gonna cry at some point during the preop diet. This really is TOUGH. But I told myself before I started that this will be hard. If it's smooth sailing, then I'm doing something wrong.

I think it's safe to say my family was pretty scared to talk to me the first 3 months or so after surgery. Oh well. Two years out and I'm a whole lot happier!!!!

Being deprived of something we like makes us cranky for a while. I once read that the irritation the comes from supressing the urge to gratify said cravings... vs the crankiness that comes from being hungry.

I giggle whenever I remember myself from my preop days. I am a very social person so when I got in the cab on my way to the hospital and the cab driver wanted to talk and my not
So social sister just sat there without filling the void, I nearly burst in tears. How could she!? I couldn't be bothered with small talk. I was that hungry and cranky just then.
All you need to know is that it will pass. Just focus on yourself and remember your reasons for doing this.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
