Is the anxiety better since restarting your med? Hope your doing well. I'm doing ok, still sore-- I have a one year old so I'm probably doing too much, need to ease up.

Yes I took my meds yesterday afternoon and within an hour I felt better.

sleep still not so much I'm up and down all day and night. I have no energy, and feel weird everywhere now. My skin and stuff. Not sure. I go tomorrow and see doc for post op appointment will see what he has to say then.

Hi everyone. Well, it's been one week. As of now I can drink Water freely. I am going to try some broth or a shake later.

But, I started yesterday having watery diarrhea. No cramping, no fever, no gas, no smell..but 5 minutes after drinking water, I am peeing and "pooping" it out. I have read a lot of things online, most say it's normal since there is nothing but water going in. I feel fine.

On the positive side, I have lost 15 pounds since my pre op weigh in.

Awesome job, I have been slowly adding more liquid. I am up to about 40oz of water plus the liquid foods like Jello, pudding etc... I have also lost about 13lbs since pre op. Yeehaw!

Well had 1st post op appointment yesterday all went well. Doc moved me to creamed foods. So had a couple bites of creamy baked potato which was soooo scary but satisfying. I'm down 15lbs but still so tired all the time. I'm starting Vitamins today so hopefully that helps. And still no bm so gonna try and take something for that to get things moving.

Y'all are all doing great!!! Let's keep this up we will be skinny in no time!!!

Wow that is awesome congrats on the creamed food. I go in Thursday morning and crossing everything I get the all clear too also for golf and gym. Although my stamina isn't there I seem to be on an adrenalin high and just going stir crazy waiting to get out and be active again.

2 more days to go !!!

I am so proud of all of us. I realized that the magnesium I take for heart palpitations was causing the watery poo, so that is resolved. Down another 2 pounds today.

I tried some broth yesterday. I was able to swallow it but 1/4 cup over 15 minutes made me feel like I had just been to a buffet and ate like the world was ending.

So, I guess I will just keep at the broth once a day and see what the doc says next Tuesday at my post op visit.

Feeling really good today. Still have pain at the incision but manageable. I have been watching "My 600 lb life" . It's amazing how some people truly think the surgery is a magic pill. The show just strengthens my commitment.

I sat on the sofa last night and was saying what a difference a week makes !!! last week I was just home from the hospital and totally out of it and in a lot of pain, still anxious of what the new norm would be like. A week later I had been to the driving range, ate all my Protein, drunk all my fluids and done a 2 mile walk, my BMI is now under 40 (still a long way to go but got to Celebrate the milestones on the way) I even sneaked in some soft food as a test and went well. First post op appointment with the Doc tomorrow.

Hoping to move onto the next stage tomorrow and get signed off for activities as I have 36 holes of golf booked this weekend :-) I also want to start lifting again to get some muscle and strength back.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

So glad to hear your doing so well!! Me not so much[emoji20]
I've been really tired and not able to get my fluids or Protein in at all. I'm pushing myself as hard as I can but all I want to do is sleep so it make it that much harder.
I have an appointment with my regular doc tomorrow hopefully they can do some blood work and see if something is going on.
Keep it up. I know I'll be right behind you soon enough.
I am however down 18lbs!!!

I hope the doctor can help with the fatigue. I just saw mine this morning and he said that any surgery will take your stamina away so hopefully it just need time, but wow your weigh loss is fab much better than me. Keep up your positive attitude you'll get there for sure.

I got moved onto soft foods so I am working my way through my first egg, poached and mashed up with low fat salad cream. Trying to take it very slow but boy do I want to woof this down !!! Doc cleared me to go back to pretty much normal activities so signing back up with Crossfit the gym and signing up for all my golf tournaments. Very excited to have got to this stage, still a long way to go but I feel I can start building a routine which works better for me and keeps my out of trouble and temptation.

Good luck with the doc.

Sorry you aren't doing well. The day after surgery you were out shoe shopping. Now this. Crazy. I'm sure you'll be ok though.

i am doing great. I feel good, I'm drinking Water like crazy. I hate the taste of shakes and stuff so I am taking Protein tablets. What a difference.

I still feel no hunger, no temptation, so I'm not really taking in any calories. But I feel amazing. I'm getting more hydration, more Vitamins and minerals and protein than I did when I was scarfing down pizza. Amazing. I'm so happy I did this. I am down 20 pounds!

Hi, I wasn't either. Luckily I'm one of those crazy people that prepares for emergencies and one of my preps is this: https://smile.amazon.com/SurvivAMINO-Emergency-Substitute-Vitality-Sciences/dp/B00MAG75FU/ref=sr_1_10_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492109292&sr=8-10&keywords=protein+tablets

those shakes are disgusting! I am not taking 15 tabs (90 g of protein) I'm taking 9 a day instead. I don't need 90 g of protein!!

Plus I bought these: http://www.oikosyogurt.com/products/yogurt-drink/strawberry

they are amazing and taste so delicious and have 10g protein!!!! I will start those when I feel like "eating"

I have to take anti-nausea medication just to drink one Protein Shake a day (30 grams protein). Ugh I'm so ready to begin feeling normal again!
This time away from eating has taught me the difference between head hunger and real hunger (I think anyway!) I struggled at first, but the last two days I have been free of craving my old favorites. How exhausting lol

Try the oikos yogurts. They are so delicious!!! 10 G Protein each.

I have also seen the light regarding hunger. It's funny, I used to say, but I don't eat that much!! How am I fat?? I blamed my lupus meds and diabetes. Now I am remembering every time, I just casually walked past the pantry and stuffed an Oreo in my mouth. Or finished off the kids fried chicken so it wasn't wasted food. Or all the times I had "just a few bites" of the cake on the counter while I cleaned the kitchen. YES, I did eat that much!! I just did it without noticing.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
