I was self pay and after much research selected the Mexicali Bariatric Center with Dr. Antonio Esquerra. Fabulous experience. I was 4 days in the hospital, treated like a princess, best medical care and team for sure! Think I paid $6999 for summer special. They sent me home with all my tests, all results, a video of the actual surgery and my chart so I could take the entire package to my primary care physician. I'd go to Mexico for surgery again especially considering the cost difference. I've heard good things about other bariatric surgeons in Mexico as well.

Did anyone elect to self pay for the gastric sleeve and how much did that cost?
My BMI is 38 but I have minimal health issues. Not sure if insurance will approve me...

Orlando was $14,254. I went to Dr Illan in Tijuana for $4400

I didnt self pay but got the bill in the mail, if insurance didnt pay id have to pay 34k for sleeve in pa. Thats with a 2 night stay though

Self pay VSG in Mexico $5800 included ASMBS-certified surgeon and 4 nites in hospital. The International flights costed more and we're extra. The language barrier was more of an inconvenience and was only with nurses and orderlies. I wished I had brushed up on my Spanish beforehand. We used online translators on phone a lot. Get the nurse to speak in your phone or type it in etc.

Dr Mario Longoria and the procedure was done at St David's Round Rock hospital. Couldn't be happier with Dr Longoria or the hospital.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
