Are there any natural hair woman whom have gotten Bariatric surgery? I would like to know about your Hair loss and did your hair change.

After almost 4 years natural, I am just learning my hair and I am wondering will it change or fall out? If, so how long did it take to grow back?

Almost everyone loses lots of their hair during the first year. It can thin evenly over the head, or have almost bald Patches. It starts growing back in after a year or so.

I started wearing my hair in it's naturally curly state shortly before I had sleeve surgery. I hoped that if it started thinning after surgery, wearing it curly would help it look fuller. I found a couple of products from Mixed Chicks that I like a lot. Post-op, your hair might change, but you can't know until it happens. If it does change, you'll learn how to work with it just like you did when you went natural. Good luck!!

I have been fortunate to not have any Hair loss. I am 2 mos out. My hair texture has changed and I have to relearn what works and doesn't. Take your Vitamins and get all the Proteins you can. You should be fine

Yeap, that was a big fear for me. I had lost a lot during WEN, and blamed menopause. [emoji24] Then over the past year and some looking good. Just had sleeve 1/10 and know what's ahead. Many take all the Vitamins, and Biotin but unfortunately around month 5 or 6 you read the stories. YouTube it. Still good to do vitamins, my biotin and evening primrose, I will not be giving up. I was thinking of amping up juicing in a few months. All those pure vitamins, like a glass a day! Beets, rosemary included good for hair, kale, carrots, keep eating eggs (good biotin source)

I have been natural almost all my life.

My hair shed terrible. I took all my Vitamins, even expensive hair Vitamins, and my Protein was always over 90 grams a day. My hair grew back even thicker. The texture is the same. I'm 19 months post op.

I am almost 6 years natural. My hair is about normal- thin density and 4 months po. I feel like im starting to see some excess shedding but i have been keeping my hair in 8-15 chunky two stand twists so I'm not in my hair all the time and redo them like once a week. I feel like if its going to happen it'll happen. Just trying to go with the flow and ride it out. I do a thorough detangle about once or twice a month or when i feel like washing my hair, apply my leave in/ moisturizer twist it and tie it up. I've seen length retention but i do think it's a bit thinner.

My thick hair thinned a little - not so anyone would notice. My hair became much more delicate and splits It has been almost 2 years since my surgery I have seen no change since I hit goal. Not a huge thing though I am looking for a new style

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
