Anyone know of Dr De Bruyne Chris

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

First time poster here.

I am considering banding and have been impressed with the comments about CDB.

I have a few questions (probably typical newbie questions so please be gentle)

1) Does banding actually work in most cases?

2) What are the potential complications?

3) How soon after surgery did you return to work? I can probably get 6-8 clear days off work this year if I decide to go through with it.

4) How mych do you typically lose in the first 6 months?

Any info would be much appreciated. I'm not looking for a miracle cure, I know I will still have to put the work in, but I am just looking for something that will help me lose the greatest amount in the shortest possible period when I do start. I have about 10st-12st to lose.

Thanks

Tel

I can only speak for my experience. I was banded July 31st 2010 and am a few weeks off the first year and I have reached my target. I lost my target of 106.5 lbs in 51 weeks. I know this is quite an unusual journey and it has been intense.

For me I weighed up the complications and looked at CDB track record and the way in which he does his surgery. Also the choice of band was important I looked at the capacity and CDB uses a 15ml band for women. I have 6mls in my band and this comprises of 4 fills.

I was lucky as I was able to have 5 weeks off after the surgery as I am a teacher and went for the procedure in the summer hols. I was ok after 10 days and was camping 3 weeks into the band.

Intererstingly I have just done my weight and inch loss stats for the year and broke it into before and in between fills so here goes:

first number is weight loss second number is inch loss and month of fill

and amount

up to 1st fill 25.5 21

from 1st fill to 2nd 7.5 8.5 September 2010 3ml

from 2nd fill to 3rd 35.5 29.25 October 2010 2ml

from 3rd fill to 4th 18.0 12.5 March 2011 0.5ml

from 4th fill 20.5 15.25 May 2011 0.5ml

total loss 107 lbs 86.5 inches

Hope this helps

Cx

Hi peeps

First well done Kerry on your 4 stone loss keep up the good work .

Thanks feckles for your support and i definetly remember you when i was reserching the band i got a good laugh at you and big sister and mmm,and the rest of the gang your banter was so funny at times.Do you still hear from big sis and gillian how are thay getting on tell them to post .Also i only paid for my flights and Dr Chris put 5mls in during op.Oh im glad your daughters are doing. well.

Telby i got banded in Feb this year i lost 18pounds after the op then never lost anything else but then thay discoverd i had a leak in the tube that leads from the port to the band and i got it fixed f.o.c. this week so i hope my weightloss will start now. After the op i was back to normal in about 5 days.As for the complications i guess would be slippage, or getting a leak ,some people suffer from acid reflux,The more serious complication the surgen will go over with you .But i would do it again hope this helps.

Hi jojo how you getting did you get your stitches out yet.Have you lost any weight?

Have a good week everyone.:)

Sade, yeh, we've all jumped on the 'band wagon' lol.

My eldest daughter was banded first in 2004, she lost about 8 stone as far as I can remember. I posted a before and after pic of her a few months back.

She has a little girl who's almost 2, and she hardly put any weight on throughout the pregnancy, then she became pregnant again earlier this year after her partner had a vascectomy (didnt work for him ), but sadly tha baby died at 16 weeks. She put on about 3 stone and hasnt lost it. needless to say she will lose it again after the birth of this baby, due on 27th december.

My younger daughter has only started to lose weight since her 3rd fill which was in march 2011.

She still wants to lose more weight, she wants to be a size 6/8, which I think is a bit drastic, but she's only 5feet tall so maybe i'm wrong.

Chris said she was an ideal candidate for the band, which made me feel like a carthorse, @ 13 stone :(

Hope this helps you Telby and good luck with your loss Sade hunny xx

Telby, look at peoples 'tickers' underneath their posts to see the weight losses.

I suppose we have all jumped on the band wagon, but when it is us who are the target it does not feel nice.

I am 5ft and I want to get to 9stone, as I am bottom heavy I will be a 10 on top and a 12 on the bottom.

I have big legs and bum, it's so annoying. I am now 10st 5.5, it depends on how much your daughter weighs, how much does she weigh now? and what wait does she want to get to be a size 6/8? As a 5ft person whose 27, I would not want to be a size 6/8, I think i would look ill.

I don't think my body would allow me to get so skinny, the most I would probably go to is 8st 7 which I have not been since I was 16 years old, I think I would be an 8(top) and 10 (bottom).

Pearce I had a leak from my first band (NOT banded by dr Chris though) and I could eat anything, it was just as if I didnt have a band.

Apparently the tubing had corroded, from movement of my body, and then developed a fracture, so no fills stayed in. I have seen the old band and it has been examined by a professional and that was the reason for the leak, that happened after 2 years.

Sade, Sarah is 62kilos atm, which is 9stone odd.

I still sometime speak to Big sis and Gillian on Facebook, but they never come here anymore, too busy I spose, like the rest of us, they were good fun, I remember, Mmm still comes on sometimes, though she spends a lot of time in France so finds it hard to keep up.

Hi pearce

Ive just come back from Brussels on Wednesday after getting my band fixed i had a leak in the tube that leads from the port to the band.It was pearced during a fill i think it happend on my first fill as chris Depreze could not find my port and i had to go to Edinbourgh the following week to get Dr Chris to fill it.However after 4 fills i new something was wrong as i dident get the same restriction as everyone else i could eat bread ect... no bother i did get the odd thing stuck but not often.I told Dr Chris my concerns and he filled me up to 8.5mls then i went back the following month and he could only get 3mls out and it was yellowish therefor i had a leak How much do you have in your band. When did you get your band fitted.I hope this helps if you have anymore questions just ask and let us know how you get on.

Hi Pearce, yep it sounds like an overfill, if your still having problems you have a few options:

Get some omeprazole from chemist no prescription needed, take max dose for a few days, to reduce acid and slime.

drink cold drinks or sip ice lollies,

If you cant swollow saliver contact fred or chris, and arrange emergency unfill. Clinic in London every Sat.

Hope this info is not required and all has settled down.

Pearce get in touch with Chris or freddyboy, tell them you feel you are overfilled, if you cant cope.

I think if you can get Water down you should be ok, the weight will fall off, which is what we all want isnt it|????

Providing you dont have anymore pains in your chest or acid reflux, you should be able to cope for a while, then get a defill.

When I was overfilled and had reflux, Freddy took some out for free, as its not safe for you.

I understand the cost stops us from doing whats right, but Freddy is pretty fair and is genuinly concerned if you have side-effects and will do it for nothing, dont be scared to ask, I've had a few defills for nothing.

Hope this helps you chick xx

Doesnt sound like you have a leak hunny.

Hello

Did you get the text? The contact numbers are on the website.

The anxiety really doesn't help as the band tightens. I had exactly the sameon October last year and as Freckles says the weight comes off. But you are limited to a few spoonfulls at a time. I drank warm Water as I found this really helped I seemed to have the opposite to everyone else with the reaction to cold.

See how you are over the next few days as it may ease. Remember when you have a fill it tries tofight against itself due to the slight swelling. So see how you go if obviously you can'tcope and get reflux or lots of saliva then you may have rethink this.

How much have you lost since last July?

Take care and look after yourself. Can't believe that on the 31st July we would have had the band a year! Amazing.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
