How soon did you return to work?

Recommended Posts

I'm in the process of trying to get RNY and I'm just wondering how soon y'all returned to work. I work in the medical field and do a lot of physical work. Walking, standing, bending, lifting (50 lbs or so), crouching, reaching etc, for 10 hours a day

When did you guys return to work, or when we're you able to attain this level of activity?

Looking to hear from those that had rny specifically.

Thanks!

I was out for 5 weeks. I am a school bus driver and since that requires you to lift 40 plus pounds my surgeon wanted me off until I could do that! It really depends on how much activity you have. It sounds to me, you have quite a bit and heavy lifting. Talk to your surgeon but I'm sure they will say 4 to 6 weeks! I wasn't ready before 5 for sure. Good Luck! Hope that helps!

You'll need to be out for around 6 weeks which is how long people are typically limited with lifting..

Yep, I was back (working from home after 1 week) in the office after 2. But still tired because the calories were so low. By 6 weeks you are able to consume a bit more, so better energy.

I went back to work 5 days after surgery working half days. It completely depends on you and your doctor's choice of medicating you. He said I could go back and pre-planned my medications so I could go without being dangerous to myself or others. He let me drive too.

I couldn't drive for two weeks so I teleworked from home. Really you need a couple of week to figure out everything (such as eating, sleeping, etc). Your surgeon should have guidelines set as to when you can drive, go back to work etc.

You'll need to be out 6 weeks with the amount of weight you need to lift. I was told nothing over 10lbs for 6 weeks.

Oh and I forgot, there was a 5 pound lift limit that I was on for 30 days. I didn't follow it (I have three needy dachshunds).

I am an oncology nurse and going back after 2 1/2 weeks. But I am doing Triage which is mostly sitting, phone and computer. My main concern is the fatigue because I work four 10-11 hour days!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
