Did you have to do a pre-op diet?

I felt starving the day after the surgery in the hospital. The nurse told me it's common, you won't really feel full until you are least get to the pureed stage when you get some real, solid food in there.

Some people say stomach acid can feel like hunger so maybe ask you surgeon about it. Are you taking meds for stomach acid??

Many cravings are just in your head. Don't give in and eat something you are not approved to eat, you will regret it (it will hurt, you may vomit, etc) Also, it takes several weeks for your staple line to heal, eating the wrong things can cause a leak which could be deadly.

I honestly didn't crave carbs, still don't 6 weeks out, I just wanted something soothing that would make my stomach feel normal (not hungry or gurgling or nauseated......) It comes with time.

Yes I did have a pre-op diet. I keep drinking hoping this would help the hunger pains. It maybe acid too. I'll keep chugging my Protein drinks.

More than likely it's acid. Take your PPI and ask your surgeon for something stronger if it doesn't subside. I had to take liquid Carafate for about 2 weeks after surgery, and it really helped. Now I just take my daily PPI. I'm 6 weeks out.

After surgery, there are additional signaling in the stomach from the trauma of surgery and increased acid that may be confused for hunger pains. If you're right after surgery, it's probably not real hunger and most likely head hunger.

I had serious head hunger after the first week of surgery. I watched a ton of food cooking videos which helped although may be too tempting for others.

Just take it a day at a time :)

I actually started feeling real hunger and stomach growling about a month after surgery. But the intensity is definitely a lot less than before surgery. Which helps me a lot with making better food choices.

Do you like Hot drinks? I drink hot tea or sugar free hot chocolate and it helps me feel satisfied. Oh, I still dream of pizza so I'm looking into trying some of the crust free low carb recipes in the future.

Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
