Hey everyone! New to the site and so far what I see it looks like a great support system and looking forward to coming here. My surgery is scheduled for December 19th and I am getting my FMLA paperwork started. I called my doctor and the suggest 6 weeks has anyone else been told this amount of time for the sleeve?

It depends on what you do for a living and how much you have to lift. You will have a lifting restriction for a few weeks while you heal.

I work in an office and my doctor cleared me to return the following week. I took a week and a half off in total. I have the freedom to leave my desk when I want and there is a fridge and microwave, so it was no problem.

I've also seen others post that even if they didn't need the extra time physically, it helped them get a solid start mentally.

Good luck :)

I took six weeks off of work. It was the best decision I could have made in terms of recovery and adjusting to post-op life.

Good luck!

I am 5 days post op and I felt like I could have went back yesterday but my only concern is I get hyper focused and would forget to drink Water. I am only taking a week off and I was outpatient.

Oh, I work at a lab bench.

Sadly went back after 2 weeks. It was fine, I just really wanted more time to NOT be at work, but I was physically and mentally ok to be there.

I took 2 weeks and I needed longer. I'm on my feet about 50% of my job, going up-and-down from my chair all day long. I am 4 weeks out and I still have days where I have a lot of pain at the incision site where my stomach was removed. The pain will be sharp and stabbing. I know it's because I'm up-and-down too much and also doing too much.

I would drive myself crazy if I stayed at home for 6 weeks. But that's just me. Everyone has their preference and sometimes it's job dependent. I went back to work a week and a half later. I worked part time and slowly worked my way up to a full work day because of lack of energy and mental fogginess. I'm in my 4th week post op and I feel almost normal.

I took a little more than six weeks. I work for myself, and my job involves a lot of heavy lifting. My doc recommended 6-8 weeks because of that. That took me to just about December. I make stuff for people (and teach the same) for my living, and with the exception of last minute gifts (which I don't have to do if I don't want) business slows down in December. So I took off until January.

Now that I am pretty well healed up, I've been having a ball, living the life of a kept man for the past few weeks. On the other hand, Mrs. LittleBill has been reminding me that there is still stuff that needs doing around here.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
