I have to wear a suit to work everyday. I am 80# down and now all my suits are falling off me. I don't really want to buy new suits as I still have 30 to 40 more pounds to go. Any tips on getting away with a Blazer. I don't usually like sport coats so not sure how to pull it off.

Looking for some fashion advice.

Thanks

Have you checked out Salvation Army / Goodwill? As I dropped through sizes I've bought several sport coats / suits from there. Brand name, great condition, and you can get a whole suit for $20-$30. It's crazy.

The Goodwill idea is solid. I see your user name says Chicago... Have you gone to suits 20/20 in Niles? You can pick up a couple nice pieces there very reasonably and the tailor there is wonderful. Get my boys suits there...Tiglio Luxe for 1/3 of the price and if you buy right, you can get them altered down a few sizes.

I picked the house brand at my local department store (Macy's) so nothing was too expensive after adding coupons and catching a sale. I would buy a jacket one size smaller and wore it open until I lost enough that it could close and then wore it until it was one size too big. I bought basic colors like navy.

I buy everything I wear for my shrinking body on EBAY or at thrift stores. For high quality stuff, EBAY is the best, and having gone through many sizes in my path to tiny-ness (I am 6'4", never tiny!) I buy ahead of need. What I love about EBAY is the sheer amount of uncommon sizes available... I am now a 2xlt and find great stuff.

I now have grey dress slacks or navy, and wear a wool sportcoat with them. I have two sport coats, one grey houndstooth and one navy blazer. The blazer is Hart Shaffner and Marx... the two slacks and the two sportcoats total cost less than $125. This makes me dressy enough for my gigs... and I have the next size slacks and the next size sport coats on hangers waiting for the next phase.

Better consignment stores have great suits at really good prices. When I needed to get "a real suit" for an event, and I wasn't sure if I was done changing, I purchased separates (pants and jackets) so if either size changed I could switch.

Biggest change? Inseam. My butt has shrunk so much my pants all needed to come up an inch.

BTW, be aware that while in past you might have preferred pleated pants for the extra room, they may not work for you now. Also where you wear your pants can change. I used to have my belt line under the gut, not now.

Speaking of belts...https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=adjustable+ratchet+belt&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=153670451678&hvpos=1t4&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10463558448349875284&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1024290&hvtargid=kwd-70284717029&ref=pd_sl_2bive3jwze_b

Ratchet belts are great because you can trim them as you shrink.

Very good threat and info. thanks for posting. The only down-side I see about my possible surgery is letting go of all my old clothes. It's all so nice and it was so darn expensive :( I actually feel bad. I'm not a materialistic person, I don't give much thought about the cost of something, just it's usefulness and necessity. But still... I look damn good in my current clothing options lol. Sorry for the rant guys :D

I just took about $500 worth of fat clothes down to Goodwill last week. Some of them were hardly worn, but I was starting to swim in them. I look at it from this point of view. I am not eating at the local diner 3-4 times a week anymore, so I am saving a bunch of money there, and that can go to new clothes. It is a challenge though, finding stuff that fits and is not real expensive for the transition.

I was never a clothes horse but had a bunch of very nice clothes. I put an ad on our local Facebook community page and found a 4xl/5xl tall guy who due to his finances really needed clothes and could never afford surgery like I had... now I am comfortably in xl/2xlt, buy all my clothes other than socks, underwear and shoes on

ebay or thift stores, and now have the best wardrobe ever....

I have a thrift store called Savers in my area. I've been shopping there loads (Their proceeds help disabled vets). I haven't even spent $100 there yet and I've got enough clothes for work. It's been hard to keep up, I'm down 8 inches off my waist and down two shirt sizes.

Today is day 3, and my gym shorts are already falling off my ass just walking around the bariatric unit. LOL, I hope my old clothes last a little while longer than that, or I'm going to go broke trying to stay clothed for the next 6 months!

I'm looking for a nice suit, too, for my sister-in-law's wedding April 1. I have my suit from my wedding, five years ago, that's fitting nicely now, but it'll be beyond a tailor's help two months from now (losing about 25 lb. a month). I've been searching through thrift stores with no luck yet. Will try eBay if I don't find something by early March.

You might want to rent a suit from a tux shop.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
