Medical Alert Bracelet

Recommended Posts

Has anyone gotten a medical alert Bracelet stating that they have had a gastric bypass? I found one on evilBay and was wondering if I should buy it.

I don't think there is a need unless you have other health problems that require one.

Yes I have one, I have other allergies also. I feel like I don't want to take the chance of getting my pouch cut by a blind NG tube. I feel like every chance situations I would rather them go into whatever they are doing with their eyes wide open to whatever may help. That is just me myself and I.

That was my thought as well.

As a nurse and RNY I believe it is very necessary due to our altered physiology. There is no way that in an emergency situation EMS or physicians would know initially without a family member's disclosure or an ultrasound, which may not be called for. I ordered a medic alert Bracelet from Amazon for $11.99 with free engraving. It will say Gastric bypass: No NSAID'S, No blind NG tubes, No sugar. ICE: two family members phone numbers. We are so delicate now and our lives can be in real danger in an emergency.

This was very helpful, never thought of getting one. I'll have to rethink this.

Thanks for this subject, and thoughts.

This is suggested by our surgeon. They are supposed to say no blind NG. Also, something about a yellow dot for our vehicles. I am not familiar with that tho.

I bought an Med ID bracelet. My Dr recommended it.

Bariactric Surgery

No Bling NG tube

Fluid capacity 60cc

No NSAID.

I don't want to take a chance that in emergency something goes wrong.

I had sleeve 2011 and on Nov.33,2016 have bypass due to acid reflux issues.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
