So I'm 6 months out and I've gone between chronic diarrhea and chronic Constipation since surgery. Recently, my poop is black.. like jet black. Anyone have anything similar that can shed some light on what might be wrong or if this is normal. Sorry for the gross topic.

I would call my primary, internist or gastroenterologist first thing in the morning. Black stool usually indicates blood and should not be ignored. Also mention the six months' of swings between diarrhea and Constipation, which may indicate Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), not the worst thing.

I don't intend to scare you, but urge you to make the call with no further delay. Don't waste time online, as things you'll read may scare you unnecessarily.

@@skinny_knees, I'm glad you brought that in. It's something I'm unaware of. Nevertheless, @@GSleeve822 probably should get checked out because of the other joy she's been experiencing. Can't hurt and peace of mind goes a long way.

Black stool can be from pepto bismol or Iron or Multivitamins with Iron. If none of these apply to you, sounds like upper GI bleed! Especially if it smells awful! Get in wit PCP or ur surgeon stat.

I have had really bad diarrhea and am only 8 days out. I talked to my doctor today and she asked if it was black at all which was an indication of blood so I agree that you should get in really soon just incase.

On a side note does anyone know of a good liquid probiotic. My doc said to give the diarrhea another week or two and I could use immodium which did 0 to stop it so I'm looking for a probiotic to see if that helps. I'm fine when I drink Water but any protien sets me off about 30 mins later, I'm starting to feel a little weak.

I'd call first thing in the morning too. If by chance you get other symptoms of internal bleeding like severe abdominal pain, numbness or pain in your leg(s), dizziness, bruising all over, then please please go to the ER and do not wait.

Drink kefir. It's a fantastic probiotic, better than yogurt. You can add sugar free syrups to make it a dessert.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
