Skinny people problems

OzRoo, I have the same problem with shaving my pits!! What is the Brazillian Laser treatment? Is it painful? Does it cost an arm and a leg? I also have the knee's going on after I lost 124#'s my knee's started killing me found out it is Arthritis!! Which makes them even more boney!! I sleep with a oblong pillow between them at night. When I ask my Dr why the Arthritis started after I had lost my weight he said, that if it had flared up before that I would be in a wheelchair!! SCARY THOUGHT. I also have a tail bone that kills me now. Had to buy pillows for my recliner and my car seat!! I freeze to death where before I was so very HOT and everyone else was cold!! We are thinking of buying an Electric Blanket for this winter. I won't say that I wished I had WLS years ago because I really don't think I was ready for it. Plus with all the practice Dr's have had and the support from the internet I'm glad I waited. I know 3 people that had the old Stomach Stapling and one gained every # she lost plus, one is sickly and doesn't take care of herself. (Mentally she is a wreck) The other has so many health problems and has gained a significant amount of weight back. So I'm happy I waited until now. I did have some problems with Strictures but all is great now!! If you were to ask me if I would do it again I would have to say with everything in me IN A HEARTBEAT!!! I will just deal with the boney stuff small price to pay to be HEALTHY AGAIN!!

Oh, and re sweats or feeling cold .....

The only time I felt cold was during European winters, many, many years ago.

I have a thyroid disease, and I always did sweat when I was slim, when I was obese and sweat again now, when I am heading back to being slim again.

My thyroid has been doing cartwheels before, and is still making me sweat now, after my 3rd med dose adjustment.

I live in air-conditioning, other people freeze, but not me :angry:

I long to feel cold! Can always put more clothes on, turn up the heating.

With feeling hot so much, even sitting naked would not fix this for me ......

And I live in the hottest and humid state in Australia ......

And summer is coming .......

Check your thyroid ladies, it does affect the internal furnace.

The first thing I did was have my thyroid checked when I put on 50 lbs in 2 years. Turns out it is working perfectly fine. It was the 4 pints of ice cream per week I was eating! Lol!

I long to feel cold again too. I live in southern AZ. It's warm here nearly year round as I know it is in many parts of Australia too. Our summers are ridiculously hot. I know once I drop some weight it will make me more comfortable.

This laser slightly burns, but it is not unbearable, and each session was very quick. You get special lotion to put on, and really one hour later you don't feel anything.

I bought a package for $39 AUD for 1 treatment. I had 8 treatments that included arm pits, pubic hair and in between buttocks.

Each treatment was initially spaced 1 per month, then as the little hair got weaker and started completely disappearing, I went every 6 weeks.

It was done in a Laser Clinic. You can find out and check out laser clinics in your area, and enquire if they do pits only.

Please let me know, and I am curious re prices in your area too.

In Queensland, I really have been suffering from the heat and humidity. Summers last 6 months here!

My hyper-thyroid and gaining 90 Ib in 2 years made it so much worse, practically unbearable.

Lately, I started feeling a bit cooler at times, and like you, I am waiting to be more comfortable.

I've been to Sydney to visit and loved it. The Opera House was amazing and the cruise ship harbor area is one of the nicest I have seen. So pretty. I had only seen on TV before when they show the fireworks on New Year's Eve. It was very cool to see it in person.

I watch The Real Housewives of Melbourne and now I am obsessed with going there- but I'm not going until I lose some weight so I can dress chic and do some shopping! My husband was born and raised in India, so next time I visit my in laws, it would be easy to plan a trip to Australia since it's close. Last time we stopped in Dubai for 4 days on our way home. It was incredible!

Ugh. Thyroid issues can wreak havoc on your weight. I hope you've got it under control.

I lived in Sydney most of my life, and yes, it is a fabulous city with great beaches.

I am now on the Gold Coast, which I call a miniature version of Sydney.

Hope you can start buying chic clothes soon. And visit Melbourne as well. :)

I have had so many thyroid issues, and this made my recovery from WLS much harder, I am now on 1/2 dose of my med, and starting to sleep better and have less nasty headaches, so fingers crossed.

Haven't had issues with weight-loss, just my med was getting too strong with each weight-loss, this was making me Hyper-thyroid again.

Anyway, another blood test in 6 weeks time, and maybe this time it will be better.

My experience was that it snuck up on me. I had surgery in November. It wasn't till July that I really noticed I was colder. I noticed it in the reduction of AC over the summer. It was our hottest July on record or close and I spent about half what I did last year on AC. Last summer I would sit in my livingroom with the window AC full blast in the bedroom right next to me and still be sweating. This summer I rarely set my AC above a 5 out of 10 and wasn't sweaty anywhere in my apartment! I also slept under blankets (light ones) all summer! I am a little concerned about making it through a Minnesota winter, but I can always put more clothes on. Sweating is so unattractive!

What pi$$es me off are the people that say..... your too thin you need to gain weight... F*ck them. Friday night i had a relative that had not seen me in a while asked if i were sick..... Hell no, im great.... Never better. You know the old question..... Cancer, Death or divorce...

I had the funniest thing happen related to this the other day. I was at a work function and someone commented on how I was getting too skinny. That person knew about my surgery and was paying me a compliment. One of my coworkers who also knows about my surgery quickly came to my defense thinking that the compliment was actually an insult and didn't want me to feel bad so she said, Pam has been working very hard to lose weight and is doing great. I had to let her know that I appreciated the defense, but it was a compliment! I have the best coworkers!

Yes, being cold without 100 lbs of fat to insulate is definitely a problem that didn’t exist before weight loss surgery! It’s nice that I can fit into the extra layers of clothing that I need, though!

Another one is the annoyance of people telling me that I don’t need to… “You don’t need to watch what you eat.” “You don’t need to skip dessert.” “You don’t need to work out so much.” Well, yes, actually, I DO need to! That’s how I am able to maintain my weight loss! It is so flattering that people see me as someone without a weight problem, but it is annoying when they think I can maintain my weight without any effort – almost nobody can, even most people who have never been overweight work really hard to prevent weight gain!

All these “skinny people problems” are such beautiful reminders of how far I have come, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. :)

OMG. I came here exactly for THIS.imageproxy.php?img=&key=3bbd8bc3022d1b1aimageproxy.php?img=&key=3bbd8bc3022d1b1a I've lost almost 100lbs and I still have about 37lbs left. I'm kinda worried about losing more because I am SOO bony now it hurts to sleep cause my hips have no cushion and they dig into my MEMORY FOAM mattress. I can't even contemplate laying down on the hard ground. My collar bones stick out and are very prominent, and I have to be careful when sitting on a toilet seat cause my tailbone whacks the back of the seat if I don't sit a bit forward. I'm freezing ALL the time. I was always cold even at 300lbs, but now it's intolerable. (My thyroid has been tested & is fine.)

Let me be clear, I am in no way already skinny. I still have heavy rolls (not just skin) on my belly and significant back and thigh fat still. But all my joints are extremely bony.

My question is this: is this normal for thinner people or do I just genetically have a big frame bone structure? OR... is that we really do get "big bones" from being obese for so long? I know the concept of big bones is mostly a myth, "I'm not fat, I'm big boned" but I'm wondering if our bone structure adapts to our extreme weight. I've been morbidly obese since I was 12 so I honestly don't know what my bone structure should be like and if this is normal. (My mom & both grandmas are/were also morbidly obese their whole lives.)

Oh my! I'm having exactly all of these problems right now. I can't sit for so long and have to stand up every now and then and take a walk around the office because it hurts to sit. I didn't have this problem a year ago. Having a desk job does not help. I get cold very easily even before my WLS. Luckily I have my own office and I never turn on the air conditioning at all. You can certainly feel the difference when you walk into my office and the open space which feels like the north pole

I was diagnosed with Grave's disease at 20 years old. Because of my age (child bearing years) Radioactive Iodine was not a treatment option and I had to have the majority of my thyroid removed. The stress of a pregnancy destroyed the functionality of the remaining thyroid and I have been on 175 mcg since (30+ years) but still have trouble maintaining adequate T3 levels even when taking T3 directly. Medications can never fully replicate God's design and as a result my metabolism has never recovered completely. To stay thin, I became a master of deprivation and an extreme carb-phobic.

Until 2012, I "dealt" with "skinny people problems". As far as underarm hollows, it may take time to increase your flexibility, but raising your arm with your elbow behind your head alleviates the hollows. The issue of hip bones, bony knees & rumps, etc., we become so accustomed to extra padding we forget that this is how our bodies are supposed to be. As overweight people, few of us have the layer of muscle and the thin layer of FIRM fat the human body should have. When we lose excessive weight, we lack the muscle and the fat that remains is loose and contained within loose skin so it "parts" like the Red Sea when pressure is placed on bones. The solution is the bane of our existence.....exercise, specifically weight training to build muscle. Loose skin will always make our "thin layer of fat" loose rather than firm but it sure beats being obese.

As far as feeling cold, I can't speak with any authority. Being severely hypothyroid, I have difficulty regulating body temp (my normal temperature runs 96.4). When i get chilled, it takes an Act of Congress to warm me up. On the rare occasions I get overheated, I am unable to sweat which is the natural mechanism to cool oneself, so I must resort to cold showers.

When I first got my Lapband and went down to 121lbs, it hurt when I slept as well. All I did was cardio and squats in the gym. My doctor told me it hurt because I needed muscle. So I started lifting and it fixed my problem.

People who have been overweight for most of their years, especially during puberty, the skeletal development's major hormonal growth period; do have thicker bones to accommodate the extra weight

I've been wondering about this recently because I have ZERO booty whatsoever which means my tailbone is sticking way out and hurts CONSTANTLY.

Sounds like I need to go hit the gym and grow my own butt cushion!

      So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

        It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

      I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

        I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

      How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

        Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

        I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

        I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

        I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

      Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again. 
      I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent. 
      I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

      Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
      For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
      For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
      Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
      Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
      It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
