Hello everyone!

I am new to the group and I am planning on having the DS Surgery. I am in the process of attending information sessions for 3 different surgical practices so I have not yet decided on a surgeon. I live in the Raleigh / Wake Forest area. My insurance requires that I have 6 months of a medically supervised diet prior to surgery. I have heard that you do better if you can lose more before the surgery so I guess that will help me out and that the time will fly. I will likely have the surgery in May.

I hope to learn from all of you as I read your entries in the various forums. Please continue to post even after surgery and beyond. It really helps the "newbies" to see the support that is out there.

welcome, welcome, welcome!!!

you have plenty of time to read up on the DS

ie WLS for Dummies

reading OP suggestions, experiences, knowledge is wonderful

BUT - at the end of the day

only listen to your NUT/surgeon (or me :D )

they are the ones to follow

recipes for bariatric patients

lots of info on computer

watch U-Tube also - very helpful

i never had a pre-op requirement

your 6 month period is common

as you said, the more you lose pre-op the better PO with your DS

good luck

kathy

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
