How long before you could go back to work? (desk job/non physical)

I know it's different for everyone, just trying to get a vague idea. Thanks!

My program is reluctant to allow anyone to go back before 4 weeks. They said it's more about getting the program down before having to deal with it at work than the physical limitations. They require nurses and cops to be out 8-10 weeks. Many people have gone back much sooner.

Yeah my surgeon is saying to plan for about 4 weeks but I'm curious as to what people's actual experiences were.

I was told at least 2 weeks. I had surgery Wed. Out of work Thu and Fri, then work from home (IT) the entire following week. Then I'm back in the office. I needed all of that, honestly.

My surgeon says to let your employer know it could be 6 weeks, or you could return before then but with restrictions up to 6 weeks - they really encourage it. My surgery was on a Thursday. I was out for a full week after that. The 2nd full week, I worked part time from home 20 hours, and the other 20 hours, I was on disability. Then I returned to the office full time with the restriction/ability to work from home as needed (which I can do anyway), and that's what I'm still on. It's good to have that because there have been times where my energy has just been so low that I can't get out of bed in time to get to the office at a decent start time, so I work from home in the morning, and then go in, in the afternoon. Or, I'll have a rough morning and will go home early and work the rest of the hours intermittently. The flexibility has been helpful. I've had no real physical issues as far as pain goes - its been brain fog, energy, or sometimes something not agreeing with me.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I had surgery on Wednesday and took the next week off. So 1.5 weeks total and was perfectly ready to be back.

I had a desk job and took two weeks off. I was definitely tired when I got home, and think I napped, lol. But two weeks was manageable for me. It takes a while to get back to "normal".

I took two weeks off but went back after one. I was sick of sitting at home and I love my job. [emoji3]

I went back after two weeks but probably should have taken three. When I went back to work I was too exhausted to make it through the entire day the first few days and went home each day in the middle of the afternoon. After two days of that plus a long weekend I returned to work and did much better.

Went back half time on Day 6. It was fine. Day 7 I had to work 5 hours and I was tired when I got home but otherwise fine. However, I had to give a presentation on Day 7 and I sounded like an idiot. My brain was not fully back in gear :(.

I had put in for leave for 2.5 weeks, a Wednesday surgery. This is my last week. I easily could have gone back this week and I was quite bored this week. I'm 62 so my home life is pretty easy. I will say it's nearly a full time job those first two weeks learning how to fuel your new tummy.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
