My nephew recently returned from deployment (Airforce Reserves) and it's very sad and scary that he's in more danger everyday he goes to work as a police officer! This has to stop!

@KristinLe - Thank you for your nephew's service!! My husband and I appreciate his and his family's sacrifice.

@@LipstickLady - I need to pass along a book recommendation that two good friends passed along to me. The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k. Yes, that's the title of the book. The basic idea is that you have a f- budget, and only things worthy of giving a f- about should be taken from your f- budget. The book goes into detail about how to implement this concept into real life. It's basically a treatise on "not my circus, not my monkeys" which is another excellent mantra to live by.

This is not to belittle what you're saying, because you're 100% right. Petty online disagreements seem really lame right now with everything going on in the world. People dying is worth giving a f- about. People getting their undies in a bunch in an online forum is probably not (though it's your f- budget, not mine, so you get to decide what to give a f- about). :D

Hugs!!

Thank you for your post, seriously. This is one reason I've not been on FB Twitter etc. for the last two years. In all honesty this should be a place for support. Sadly, the natural bent when it's anon on line is venom.

The reason even for becoming healthier is to obtain a better earth suit. At least for me. Not to spit for spat. If I could hug you I would.

Thank you for your post @lipsticklady. Preparing for this journey puts a lot of people in a bubble. A needle to pop it always lets new air in.

Eh, I have been an MP, a soldier (started as a private, made it to SGT, and then was commissioned , ended my time as a Captain). I invaded Panama, I have had people shoot at me and I have shot back. So please keep that in mind when I say this.

Statistically, even with all this crap going on at the moment, you are more likely to be killed on the job if you are a taxi driver or 7-11 clerk than a cop. Sorry, but that is the facts. Being a police officer is statistically a very safe job. Yes there is a great deal of media coverage on this at the moment, but numbers are what they are.

I like most of the cops I know. But about 10% of them are sociopaths. There damn unions won't get rid of them, and that minority is giving the rest a very bad reputation. Until they or the civilian authorities start cleaning house and stop the militarization of the police force it is just going to get worse.

I am not black lives/blue lives...I am ALL lives matter.

Now I will get off that soap box.

That said, I really don't get all wrapped around the axells with a handful of idiots on this or any other site. Life if too short.

I have 3 children who have served. My FIL was a retired Marine, my Dad was in the Navy, my brother and two BILs served in Vietnam - my husband was in the AF. One son, Army, is in the reserves after doing 3 tours totaled (1-Iraq and 2 in Afghanistan).

Now I worry about my grandchildren (10) and what their lives are going to be like years after I am dust in the wind............................

schools are not safe

churches are not safe

hospitals are not safe

Hell, Disney World isn't safe because people "gather".

Going to an NFL game (live on TV - 80000 people) is like asking to be shot because some zealot is looking for glory may make his name there.....

Retired Deputy Sheriff, had about 15yrs in before having to retire due to heart problems. I whole heartedly agree with your post.

On a side note, if you see a LEO, take the few seconds out of your day to "thank them and tell them to stay safe". It means more than you would think.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
