Nail polish/Acrylic nails

Recommended Posts

Nothing was specified but I knew from previous surgery I couldn't have polish on.

The OP was sincerely asking a question her team did NOT ANSWER to her satisfaction. No need for rude comments disguised as jokes.

@@still_dna Please call the hospital if your surgeon or his office do not give you a definitive answer.

Be safe and healthy! :)

If the surgery team did not answer then one needs to take responsibility and ask them again..... not a bunch of people on a Internet forum.

There will always be differences of opinion. Some will say yes.. some will say no

How would the OP feel if they left them on.. and the hospital had a strict no acrylic nail policy and cancelled the surgery until they were removed?

All that hard work for nothing... the only advice one should follow is their doctors.... especially when you are on a operating table with your life in their hands.

So forgive me for not wrapping everyone up in cotton wool and enabling them to make potentially dangerous choices based on random people on the Internet.

My surgeon wanted it all off. Not even clear polish on naked nails.

If the OP is unsure of the answer, then call for specific clarification.

If there is still some confusion-----Take it off. --all of it.

Better to have to replace the nails (and yes. I used to go every week for a fill and every three weeks for a new set), then to be at the hospital and have your surgery cancelled.

My opinion.

Ahem.. That Sound of Music meme is the best. Possibly because I'm trying to imagine Maria von Trapp speaking like that and just can't picture it XD!!!

I was told only 1 finger had to be clear of polish or acrylic. I was never told to take off everything.

Same here. I was told only one finger had to be polish free. None of the acrylic had to come off.

Research SNS nails. Much better. My natural nails have never been stronger since I started getting manicures. SNS nails look great for 3+ weeks.

Fresh Mani pedi the day before surgery. Was never asked to take Any of it off. Was completely fine. O2 levels were monitored without issue.

I was in the same boat.... And asked the surgery coordinator. She let me keep the pedicure but the nails were not negotiable. I only had polish so if wasn't a huge deal. She told me the nail beds are a indicator of oxygen levels. They really should give this info a month or so in advance!

I kept my polish (dark blue matte) on and had no issues. During surgery they used my ear lobe for pulse and later on used a clip on my finger for O2 readings.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
