When online dating didnt work out....

Recommended Posts

I'm going through this now, I have only met two women online and one is in love with her coworker who she has sex with on the side. The other really likes hanging out with me but isn't interested in a romantic relationship. Both were from Eharmony. I sent several messages yet they are the only two to respond. This online dating thing really sucks but I don't go anywhere to meet people.

@@Daveo online dating is very frustrating, clearly you didn't meet two women who had any potential... Don't let a women who likes hanging with you use you, be smart... Trying other sites is always an option, we have to have hope while not easy at times....While others will disagree with the following, I think online dating tends to attract many immature game players... With all that said many have met online so it gives us all hope that online dating may work out.

I have been sending messages to women who are not they type I usually go for yet nothing is coming back. It's either they don't respond or they move on. Getting frustrating knowing I'm going to be 40 soon and still alone.

What do you say in your messages? What dating site? I was where you are at 40 too and then met my BF a year later and we've been together going on 7 years.

@@Daveo I got no hard evidence to prove this other than my gut, I think many of the paid website say we have X amount of member... What they don't say is we have X amount of active members... I'm convinced that when your membership runs out they still keep your profile up just for appearance... That's why when I end my membership I delete all my pictures... This is just my theory based on the following, on a free website like plenty of fish I get a good amount of messages a day... That sounds better than it is as many of the message are not from people that would appeal to me... I have been on a good amounts of dates from plenty of fish... I was on match for three months, got I think a total of 5 messages and 1date... Now I'm not ms.america but that seems to be too much of an extreme difference for there not to be something weird... While all this might sound discouraging before you put the blame on you, consider other things... While I'm looking for men, so I'm not an expert on the women on these sites other than what I hear men say... Not that the pool of men I interact with speak for all men but dinner ***** has been a popular description... Please don't lose faith, a dating break maybe in order...

My point was your not getting answers to some messages maybe be simply because that person is not an active member.

Maybe this is just the case here in NY.

@ the messages I do get back are usually from fake accounts and/or women you pay for. I try to keep my head up but it's just hard sometimes.

@ daveo... I totally hear you, I'm in a similar spot myself... At the moment dating for me is on the back burner as I'm pre-op for surgery so I'm not looking for anyone new, just working with the left overs lol...they only thing I would say as advice from a women's point of view is... I get tons of hi messages, some get answered some don't... The messages that usually get my attention is when someone brings up something from my profile like if they say I see you like the beach so do I... I usually respond to that type of message because it shows the guy went beyond looking at the pictures and took the 30 secs extra to read the profile... I also think it's a confidence thing, you sound a defeated right now so that may be coming across the screen... I hope this advice is helping... It's meant to be encouraging, I'm a better talker than writer... Keep us posted

There are definitely alot of scammers and posers on sites. I actually only did 2 sites specific to "big" women. I was not optimistic but figured I'd try and see what happened.

I met my husband on Craigslist. I kid you not. I did all, I mean all kinds of dating sites. I was tired of paying for dead ends. Sure I went on a lot of dates, but then I would see the same people on all of them. I felt like I was done. I said this is my last try for a long time. Sat down and wrote an online ad on Craigslist. Posted it in 3 close areas.

Met about 5 guys. Still didn't click with anyone. Got in close to 100 emails. Then my husband emailed me. I was on the fence to even reply back because his email was choppy. Kind of cute picture, but no sparks. Probably because I was calling it quits again. I later found out he used speech to text and it wasn't picking up the first word or two. Lol

Find single meet and greets in your area or use a different dating site... you never know who you will find and where it will happen.

@@Daveo, why are you sending out requests to women that aren't your type? If they aren't your type, do you really want a response from those type of women? Probably not. I'm about to be 34 and never been married, in women years I think that's considered old by society to not ever have been married lol . But my advice to you is do not ever settle. So what that youre 40 or almost forty,( sorry I can't remember what age you said ) but never get too anxious where you settle for someone just to try to ease loneliness because trust me it's nothing worse than having someone and you can't stand being around them lol. She will come along, but make sure "she" is the real thing, not a fake substitute to get over your feelings of loneliness and getting older. I'm not being harsh, I promise I'm saying this out of love, I've just been there before and it's not fun. I'd rather wait or be single forever than be with the wrong one .

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
