I'll be having surgery with dr Illan, what did you do while you were at the guest condo? I think I'll be bored senseless just sitting in that house for 2 days, anything close by worth checking out?

Do some insurance flat out not cover wls? Seems so risky to have surgery in Mexico. I am although very uniformed on the subject....but I have been to Tijuana and the last thing I would want there is surgery. Lol.....great food and gentleman's clubs though. ..lol

I had a nerve damaged from gallbladder surgery. I was given a Mersa infection with carpal tunnel surgery. Both done in the US. The research I have done about the TJ medical facilities and doctors showed me they will provide me with higher quality of care than I have received in the US. BariatricPal MX will pick me up at the SD airport and take to the hospital. I will spend 3 nights in the hospital. In the US this is considered out patient surgery. And yes, my insurance will not cover my surgery.

This is slightly ignorant. Would you have surgery in Detroit, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Baltimore? Cause those places are disgusting as well, but Americans have surgery there everyday....

That is very surprising to me. Like I said I am uniformed on the subject. I can't believe there are insurances that won't cover. That's ridiculous. I guess I am lucky. Good luck with everything. I hope you achieve all your goals.

Yes I would have surgery in any of those cities because they are major us cities with top dr.s and top hospitals. Dr's trained at US hospitals. But like I said I am uniformed (the definition of ignorant) on the subject of Tijuana hospitals. I was also surprised to learn not all insurance covers wls. I hope it works out great for her and wish her and you the best in your weight loss journeys.

My insurance will not cover me because my bmi is under 35, but I have been bulimic for over 10years and was able to stop purging 2 years ago and the weight keeps piling on. I have come to the conclusion that I literally have to staple my stomach shut and remove most of the grehlin hormone to stop binging. I am not willing to wait until my condition becomes morbid, because I spent 15 years on the other side, being morbid for purging and getting too thin. I seriously have to do this, I have to be able to truthfully tell myself that if I binge my stomach staples will be ruined and that I invested over 5k for them, or I don't think I'll ever stop. Without insurance, the procedure costs over 12k. I've done extensive research, and guess what, Mexico leads the world in bariatric surgery, not the US, I feel perfectly safe.

That is a very surprising fact about surgery in mexico. Good luck with it all. Wish u the best

I had surgery on May 28th in TJ. Daniel Huacuz was my doctor and he showed me what was all around my hotel and where I could go. I went to a market nearby where they sold a little of everything and I took walks. You may not want to do too much but have the taxi driver tell you what's all around you and where you can go.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
