Those who drink diet pop post-op {Only nice comments PLEASE}

Recommended Posts

@@Beck90,

A couple of comments.

One is the way you said you could drink diet soda on “previous diets.” This isn’t really so much of a “diet program” issue as it is a weight loss surgery and lifestyle change issue. For example, your previous diets might not have required you to chew your food XX times before swallowing, or to separate food from beverages, but the gastric sleeve does. I realize this doesn’t answer your question about diet soda, but my point is that there may be some differences after sleeve compared to with other programs you’ve tried.

My other point is relatively unrelated to weight loss surgery; it’s a point just about the artificial sweetener and the research on it. Researchers consistently find that people who drink diet soda do no better than those who drink regular soda (and all of the sugar and calories in regular soda), and may even do worse. Diet soda may make you hungrier and (as @@PinkPolkadot619 said, increase cravings), which would be opposite to what you’re hoping for from the sleeve.

But keep asking around – it’s always good to know why you’re doing what you’re doing, and what your plans are for post-op.

I don't have a sweet tooth, at all, so in that respect, I am not concerned about artificial sweeteners leading me to a sweet food binge.

But a low calorie crunchy salty snack would be extremely dangerous for my WL success. I have tried it before and it has set me off on a frantic search for more salt and crunch.

I can see how diet soft drink could be dangerous for people with a sweet tooth.

The closer I get to maintenance, the more this journey becomes individual.

http://www.obesitycoverage.com/weight-loss-surgeries/gastric-sleeve/gastric-sleeve-will-my-stomach-stretch It does grow larger as your body naturally changes do look it up call the surgeons.... its not as large as original... but it does naturally grow a bit larger from all the research going from the four ounce size to six to ten is fairly common.... it's been studied. It is out there to be found.

I found that too but might as well not post the studies as it seems people don't want to see these types of truths. That article is wayyyyy too logical. :D Interesting that the article you posted states to not limit sweets but rather the volume. I'm sure that will be argued with as well.

I don't think this is a study. By study I am looking for an actual experiment with a control or double blind controls and results or findings. The problem with so many food based studies is that they are not experiments but survey based. i.e. the issue with drinking diet sodas, does diet soda cause obesity or contribute or is do obese people just happen to drink diet soda?

In order to truly know the effect of diet soda on our sleeves we would need to find results of a study where 2 groups were one drinking diet soda and one not. Their diets would need to be the same and their exercise the same and their weight gain/loss and comparative endoscopy results might allow us to draw some real conclusion about the effect of diet soda on your sleeve and weight loss.

In the absence of that everything is conjecture and the only sensible alternative is to follow the advice of your physician, not the advice of someone else physician. After all if you hit a stall or a complication it is your actual physician you are going to be looking to help you correct things.

Almost 1030 Sunday morning...

It's a clear, crisp, Autumn day...

I skipped church this morning...

That's almost 1600 Sundays in a row now....

But I'm ok with that...

Plus, Sunday is my "don't gotta think about calories and stuff when I decide what I have for dinner" day..

So it'll be something with vanilla Coke...

The hard, fully-sugared variety...

F*ck the haters!!

They don't know me...

They don't know my story...

I may even live on the edge and - use a STRAW!!!!

:o :o :o :o :o :o

My husband drinks regular soda and doesn't bother him. He eats fried food, chips and his stomach hurts all the time. I had the surgery also and do what my doctor tells me. He hasn't lost all his weight I lost 150 lbs, that is more than expected to lose. Went from 294-140 5'8 and eat right. I enjoy the bad stuff every now and then but maybe once a week and that consist of a twix or a scoop of. Ice cream. It effects people different ways. It's your choice. Your body. Your grown!

@

It's been nice knowing you...

"Prayers going up" for you...

***Edit -

I know I've mentioned the 'blessing' and the 'prayer' thing in a number of posts...

I don't mean it...

I say it because I see it A LOT on here and it always amuses me...

So for future reference, I don't require either 'blessing' or 'prayers'...

Unless I need a chuckle...

Cancer stick? Judgmental much? Smoking won't keep the weight off. Hateful people like you are why I rarely visit these forums. You're clueless.
I'm clueless about what? That there's a correlation between smoking and cancer? Are you going to deny that, or are you just being obtuse?

And the good Dr Weiner did say that people who smoke do keep their weight off better than those who don't. Look it up.

Oh, and I smoked for 25 years and quit to have the surgery. I'm now over 2 years smoke free. I'm not an anti smoking Nazi by any means, but I'm also not a hypocrite.

Sigh... then don't smoke. I don't smoke either but damn why so hateful and defensive? This isn't ABOUT cancer - it was about the things that impact the sleeve success.

...and I tried it once after quitting ( before surgery and the bubbles about killed me) and that was before surgery... my 13 yr old son quit drinking it with me still can't because of the bubbles hurting his stomach the other two of my sons( 11 and 16) quit with me for the surgery for a yr and drink it again now and are fine with it... no issues with the bubbles...Just be careful... I was before surgery curled into that ball of pain after taking 3 sips of a soda and that was before surgery.... the thought of drinking it now... I can't fathom... eggs had me curled in a ball after surgery and until about a month or so ago I couldn't eat them. Before surgery I was a smoker... after the smell made me gag.... for about 3 months.... Then A traumatic thing happened and that's what I ran to :( I don't eat more due to smoking and the docs did not seemed all that concerned that I was smoking again.

Wait, whuuuuuttttt?? Another smoker condemning diet soda?

Smoking won't undo the sleeve, pop will.

Undo? What the heck are you talking about? UNDO?

This "debate" was about soda and it's impact on the sleeve. Ok so maybe not UNDO but not help is that better? Jesus Christ go have a cookie the carbs might make you feel less bit**y and defensive.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
