Can anyone else eat more some days than others?

Recommended Posts

I am not complaining, and I don't really find it too concerning. It's just interesting. Yesterday I made "taco pie" - a recipe I found in my bariatric cookbook. It was delicious, and has the consistency of a thick chili. Anyway, last night I measured out four ounces of it for dinner. I ate it all! I feel like I could have fit in a little more but I didn't want to push it. I took some for lunch today (again, weighed out 4 ounces), and I barely ate half and was STUFFED! My sleeve definitely has a mind of it's own sometimes.

Anyone else have this as well?

Yes, there are some days I can eat more than other days. Typically I find that if I eat a lot of Protein and very few carbs one day, the next day I have a lot of restriction and can't eat much. If I eat a lot of carbs or sugary foods the one day, then the next I am hungry and want to eat everything in sight. That's just the pattern I've seen in myself....

Yeah it varies. Sometimes it is the food, the temp of the food, the texture, the moisture content, etc. Sometimes its just the mood, etc. I know early on I would get bored eating slow and just stop eating.

Yeah texture temperature can all play a role on how we consume food now. Also for the first 6/12 months post surgery the microwave was a huge gamble for me when it came to reheating food. Some days I was okay. Other days I couldn't eat nearly as much as I could the night before when the meal was fresh. And then there were days when my stomach did a total revolt of all things microwaved. It has gotten better now and I can for the most part tolerate foods being reheated via microwave. And yes if I eat something very carb dense like oatmeal, then I'm not gonna be all that hungry for food later on and the volume of what I can consume is greatly decreased.

Yeah I don't eat microwaved food at all.

Microwaving leftovers removes the moisture and you will be able to eat less.

Interesting......I've never thought about that.

At 19 months out, I have days where I can eat a few bites and I'm full, and days like the other day where I was starving and had a scrambled egg with veggies, 2 pieces of bacon and a piece of whole grain toast.

It's quite alarming seeing how much more I can eat now sometimes. It just means I have to be so much more vigilant about what I'm eating.

Like @@Babbs , at 19 months post-op, some days I'm surprised at how much little or more I can eat.

And like @@livvsmum , the more Protein I eat, the less I can eat and the less I crave carbs.

Here's another pattern -- the more days in succession I eat a high-protein, un-sugary menu, the harder it is (and yes, I mean *hard*) to eat enough calories to not start losing weight again.

There's some peculiar magic about having a sleeve + eating lots of Protein. It truly, truly kills my appetite and throws me back to what my appetite was like about 5 months post-op. Strange. And fascinating.

I also have days where I eat more or less. Sometimes I think, holy cow, I ate so much food today....but then a lot of days, I'm both not really hungry and most of what I eat makes me full really quickly or sick, so the good restriction days usually balance out the bad restriction days.

Wow I never thought of the microwave thing! That's interesting. I'll have to test that one :)

All the time. Have given up guessing what FickleFred is going to be able to stomach in any sitting. I still hardly touch carbs except for an occasional bit of sourdough...like once a week. Haven't had Pasta or rice yet, and potato rarely.

I avoid carbs too, they don't sit well with me

Yes! My first meal is always small then as the day goes on I can eat more. This isn't good...but some days I think I ate way too much and there is no way I didn't gain weight. I stress and berate myself and I don't gain anything. If I do gain a few ounces, I'll lose it with in a day. If I eat lightly for a few days...my stomach definitely gets smaller.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
