Maybe I should just get more cats....

Recommended Posts

Online dating has been an adventure. I recently thought I had met someone truly compatible. After 2 months, he tells me (in a text, btw) that he thinks we should both move on. None of the reasons he gave made sense and I could tell he was holding something back. Finally, he typed the words "I have never been with a heavy woman." I was stunned as we had been intimate several times and he commented that it was the best ever in his life, etc. I have lost 15 lbs since we started dating and 82 lbs total. He knows about my surgery and that I am shrinking. While I know I will get over this, I feel defeated and frustrated.

So, here's the plan:

5 gallon buckets and lye works better.....leaves no trace. And that comes directly from a police investigator! :o

BTW, I have three cats and a good supply of batteries. Couldn't be happier.

when they know your vulnerable areas, they go for 'em. if it wasn't the weight, it would have been something else. they do what they need to in order to make sure it's over...even if it's very hurtful. it happened to me a long time ago...when I wasn't even that heavy. he just knew I was self conscious about the fact that I wasn't thin and he used it to end the relationship. I was probably 25 lbs. heavier than I am now...so I wasn't more than a bit 'fluffy'. try to shrug it off...and don't let the next guy know so much about this part of your life. ...at least not till you're more than a couple of months into the relationship.

Damn what is it with you WLS women and violence...This is the third post I've seen like this.

OK,@@RILEYSMOM22, to the problem at hand. <ehm>

The guy was a jerk. Probably still had mommy issues. Be thankful you found out now al beit awkwardly. But be thankful you found out.

NOW, the good news. You are going to be a real hottie soon. How do I know? Because I was a 52 year old male version last year.

<Ahem> you will also be experiencing the hormone dump that comes with serious quick weight loss. Yes I know, this is coming from a guy, but PLEASE listen...what this means is you want to jump the damn parking meter soon. It's not your fault. Its not rational. It's just the way it is. Not making judgments, but please do not make any long term relationship decision during the next six months.

I am not particularly proud of the December through April of last year in my life. Yes it was a great deal of fun, and I am glad there were no long term consequences, but I have come to grips with the reality that I wasn't fully myself during that time.

Please do not do anything completely stupid during this time. But dang I wish I had that same rush with my hopefully last girlfriend...It's powerful stuff. (enjoy it) ;-)

I am so sorry this happened to you but I believe the problem is with him and not with you. He sounds like a jerk and a coward and it really irks me that he commented on your weight while breaking up with you, sounds like he was trying to make you feel insecure and bad about yourself like gowalking says and I don't know you but I have this feeling that the break up wasn't really about your weight. You need to know that you are a beautiful quality person fat or skinny and deserve way better than that. I don't have much dating experience myself but I believe that sometimes people have to kiss a lot of frogs to get to their prince and he was just a frog. Be glad that his true colors showed and he hopped back into the pond, you don't need someone so shallow and obtuse in your life. Don't be afraid to take a chance with someone else, just be careful and a little more guarded and maybe take things slower next time so you can get to know what kind of person they really are before you start investing romantic feelings. In the mean time until you get ready to pucker up to another frog or potential prince take some time to build yourself up, love yourself for the way you are regardless and not just what you could be and don't be afraid to raise the bar a bit when it comes to the type of partner you want.

Of course that was hurtful - it sucks and most likely was his own issues and weirdness. Most relationships DON'T work out,so I wouldn't put much stock in his"reasons". Wouldn't even blame him..Thank goodness he and his issues are gone for good.

Hey, an ex boyfriend wanted me back...why? Well, because I am not an insane pathological liar. Wow, that makes a girl feel like she is really valued. Actually it was great because recently I was told I wasn't someone's usual type. Asked what was meant and he said "i always find crazy redheads, only i don't realize they are crazy until it's too late" since I knew sanity is one of top attributes it was easy for me to say "you will find me boringly responsible and ordinary- sorry". This man is pursuing me pretty carefully so hmmm...

You just keep being you. Focus on your own awesome self because whether single or coupled, life satisfaction comes from within... and maybe a lucky ma n will figure that out about your awesomeness and want to be a part of it. If not, well, you've got your awesomeness and a happy life!

I just haven't figured out how to have that amazing sexlife with my new found wisdom..lol. I simply cannot do another 3-4 month relationship...done a couple now and am over that.

He's a clod, @RILEYSMOM22. but you have not even scratched the surface. So many fools, so little time.

Next time you meet someone who seems to have potential as a human being, take more time before getting nekkid. Let him demonstrate his worthiness first.

I am so sorry that you were hurt. I get the feeling that you pressed a bit for his reason. Don't do that to yourself, certainly not after only several weeks. If someone says "we should each move on," run. He's very likely telling you something about himself that you don't need to know and will do your soul no good.

Hugs to you.

They censored the word "pu$$y". Actually using dollar signs is not that far off base sometimes.

Is it really necessary to join this thread just to insult women?

Really? Didn't you see it as a joke, hence the "smiley face" at the end?

If not, I'm sorry you misinterpreted what I wrote.

If you want to be self righteous and stand on a soap box, I have read many deliberately insulting things towards men in other posts, perhaps your misplaced anger would be better suited in those posts.

"You aren't really acting as yourself, have a Snicker's bar". :)

Can I borrow him? I need a good mouser (live on a farm), but don't really have room for a full time cat.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
