8 week post op eating options

Recommended Posts

Hello I am 8 weeks post op tomorrow, and have been doing relatively well with the eating. I am a salad lover, and am so missing those foods. I am scared to start eating raw veggies and wonder how I should begin this process? I am also dying to have some oatmeal but am hesitant. Any suggestions are welcome.

oatmeal was something I was told to wait a while for, because it can get stuck. You also have to be really careful with the sugar content. As for salad, I was cleared to eat it within three months but my nut advised against it. Basically she advised against any food or drink that isn't Protein or Water. I was told to be especially wary of fibrous fruits and veggies, and the skins and seeds of fruits and veggies. I had my first banana around 3 months and could only eat about a quarter of it, and it made me so full and sat so strangely in my stomach that I couldn't get the Protein and Water that I needed that day.

I guess what I'm saying is be really, really careful. I know it's frustrating to be stuck eating the same things but this won't last forever and you need to make sure you have room for your 60+ grams of protein and 64 ounces of water. Gotta give your body what it desperately needs to heal and keep itself running during this huge biological shift.

Did your nut give you a list of fruits and veggies that you can eat?

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
