A good birth control?

Recommended Posts

I have PCOS too. Had my baby 6 weeks before I was sleeved. I went on Ortho Tri Clyclen. I hadn't been on birth control since I was 23. (Now 38). I was scared of the mirena. I want another baby and had heard too many horror stories. I also wanted something to balance out my hormones. The reason it took me so long to get pregnant was due to way too much estrogen. I also wanted a cycle every month to help reduce my risk of cancer. I will be on birth control until the end of the year when it is safe to start trying. I've been on it for about 7 months now and so complaints. I love being regular and I already have to take pills every day (vitamins) so it is easy to remember.

Mirena! I've had it for almost 5 years and love it. Works great, this coming from someone who get pregnant on the pill twice.

I'm getting the Mirena put in this Friday. I'm a little nervous about it. But we'll see how it goes.

I'm getting the Mirena put in this Friday. I'm a little nervous about it. But we'll see how it goes.

I had my mirena inserted in October. The insertion process is a little uncomfortable but after it's in it's easy to forget about it. I have only had one period since and it was super light. I recommend taking some pain medicine right before you go. I was a little crampy that day but otherwise it was good. I never delivered vaginally (had 2 c-sections) so I heard it can be a little more uncomfortable but like I said it wasn't too bad!

The insertion isn't pleasant but well worth it! My doctor adds a numbing cream for the process. Some cramping may be present but will go away. Being period free has been amazing!

If you haven't had children yet, you may want to consider Skyla. It's a smaller hormone based IUD. It was made for woman who have not had children since their cervix is not as "open" as those who have had children.

As for me, I love my depo. I'm not a fan of pain and the thought of trying to cram something into my cervix freaks me out!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
