Protein with highest protein:carb ratio

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks out from sleeve surgery and struggling to get all of my Protein for the day so I'm hoping some of you on here can help.

There is so much information about Proteins on this site and the number of choices is overwhelming, so I thought I would just ask a very specific question.

What are the Protein powders or ready to drink products with the highest protein levels and higher protein to carb ratios? I am specifically looking for drinks that are less sweet or unflavored.

Premier Protein is the highest I've encountered at 30 grams per serving.

If you are looking for less sweet, try an unflavored Protein powder. I use Isopure, others like unjury or Syntrax. It's 100% whey isolates and nothing else. 110 calories, 26 gms of Protein per scoop. I add it to Soups, yogurts, sauces. I also used the Nocarb clear drinks. 160 calories in a 20 ounce bottle, 40gms of protein. I add mine to my Water so they aren't as sweet.

I noticed I was very content with Syntrax Nectar (good quality high Protein uber low carb) in the early months...but now that I am years post op, I need a drink with a bit more substance to satiate me. My favorite by far is the Premier Protein (premade) that I buy from costco. 160 cal/30 g. of protein, under 5 carbs.

No Protein Bars are really low carb and I believe should be used in moderation.

Am I understanding you want high Protein and low carb? If that's the case Isopure whey protein isolate (unflavored) has 110 cal, 26g protein and 0 carbs per serving. You would need to add flavorings in it if you wanted a shake. This is what I used back in my weight lifting days and definitely will be using it now. I'm not sure if the company gives samples.< /p>

All of the Protein products I use (Muscle Milk, Unjury, Syntrax, premier, quest) have 20-40g protein and less than 3G sugar. As for sweetness, I use twice as much Water or milk to mix them so they aren't so sweet. I dilute the RTD 1/2 and 1/2 with milk. Or, you can use unflavored whey protein and tailor the sweetness and flavor to your liking.

Another good way to cut the sweetness is to use ¼ - ½ cup of plain greek yogurt. I use the FAGE 0%. A ¼ cup is 33 calories, 2 carbs and 6 grms of Protein.< /p>

Honestly Protein is such a personal preference. I found that I simply could not tolerate the majority of the powders, they are gritty regardless of whether you mix them with a shaker ball or put them in a bullet.

Post surgery I simply could not take the whey Protein and grit taste at all. I would gag and vomit. My Bariatric team recommended Premier Protein ready made shakes. There is no grit, 160 calories, 1g sugar and 30g of protein in 1 11 oz. shake.

In the beginning I had to milk them down by half because they are a little heavier but they taste great, fill you up and keep you full for hours.

To this day they are really the only protein I buy. If I had to pick a powder I could live with I would choose syntax.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
