Still feeling no restriction

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm almost 4 weeks post op. I posted a few weeks ago saying that I felt no restriction when I drank and was reassured that once I started real food, that would change. Well, I've just started chicken, eggs etc and still feel nothing. I don't know when to stop eating. I am always hungry. I've lost 12lbs in 4 weeks. What am I doing wrong?!? I feel like the sleeve just isn't working. Any advice please??

I was just the same as you. I don't remember exactly when it was, but it may be when I was finally able to eat normal food, that is when I felt the restriction. Still do. You will. But I was hungry like a crazy woman at first during liquids and mushys. You're perfectly normal.

So can you eat like a whole chicken breast? A three egg omelet? A 6" subway sandwich? If no, then you have restriction. If yes, then I'd talk to your surgeon to see if he even did the surgery.

As for hunger, are you on a PPI or taking antacids? Your hunger could be acid. Or thirst. Are you getting at least 64oz fluids? Getting 60-80g or more of Protein?

Yes, I could eat a whole chicken breast and a 3 egg omelet!! That's why I'm concerned!

I'm drinking all my Water and getting all my Protein in too. I just don't understand it. I honestly feel like I never had the surgery apart from the growling stomach all the time.

Can you somewhere outside of your survey office and get an xray/scan or something in your stomach? That way you know it's somebody removed from the process so far with no bias. That way if the sleeve us too big or something else is going on you have that as a back up when you go back to your surgeons office

Yes, I would definitely discuss your lack of restriction with your surgeon. Or better yet, get a second opinion from another doctor. Request an upper GI or scope to assess your sleeve size. This does not sound normal at all. I could barely eat a couple tablespoons of pureed food at 4 weeks postop. And I STILL couldn't eat a whole chicken breast or 3 egg omelet.< /p>

Sorry to tag along to your thread, but I am 11 days post-op and I've finally gotten rid of my relux which I thought was masking my full point.

I can eat 250ml of chicken Soup no problem in about 10 minutes. And I wouldn't say I've hit my full point, it's more I've decided to stop.

Maybe because it's liquid? But no many of my rl friends have had the sleeve, and they are restricted at 130ml.

I was like that too on liquids. I kept being told that I would eat less when I started solids but that hasn't happened. Going to call my dr on Monday. I'm pretty worried now.

Everything will be okay, I'm sure there is some explanation. :)

Wait. So you FEEL like you could eat that much or you have actually sat down 4 weeks post-op and eaten that much?

I can actually eat that much. I chew it very well and it takes me about 20 minutes but still get no signal that I've had enough. I don't feel satisfied. It's very strange.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
