Everyday is a battle

Recommended Posts

I am about 4 weeks post op, I was cleared for soft foods and haven't had really any problems with a spoon or two of foods butttttt at times I get so frustrated that I can't eat just a little more of my favorite foods. I thought that phase was over weeks ago. Every day is battle of me vs food.

I thought the whole idea behind this procedure was so that we couldn't "eat just a little more" of our favourite foods...

Mainly because our "favourite foods" are rarely broccoli and tofu...

The frustration passes @@lizag234

It's just a phase...

You're kidding, right? At four weeks your sleeve incision isn't even healed yet. If you had knee surgery would you be wondering why you can't play basketball yet?

Be happy and embrace this opportunity to develop new behaviors while you have such tight restriction. Take the time to learn how to eat healthier, not how to eat more. Believe me, one day, months and especially years from now your battle will be that you can eat too much and if you haven't retrained your head, you will lose that battle.

That is a battle that will always rage inside of you ... No matter how far out you get or how much you loose ...

BUT ... it's a battle worth fighting and a battle worth winning ...

Don't give in !

Stay strong ... stay positive ... stay busy ... This too shall pass.

I'm further out than you, and unfortunately there will come a time when you "can" actually eat all those foods without it hurting your stomach. I'm now realizing that while my sleeve can handle the junk I used to put in my stomach, I don't want to go back to where I was before. Itvwas better when I was afraid to eat any of that stuff. Now keeping focused and maintaining my willpower is extremely important. I can relate to the "me vs. food" sentiment!

I am SO extremely grateful for my restriction. In fact, I have a slight stricture that makes my restriction greater than many and I refuse to get it corrected because I prefer the inability to eat much. It keeps me honest and it keeps me on track.

Eat to live, don't live to eat. There is a big difference, one you should think about embracing.

You are still definitely in the healing phase and also the awesome rapid-weight-loss stage. I"m 2 years post op and sometimes I really miss that crazy restriction at the beginning where you can only eat a few bites. I have to do re-sets of liquid diets every so often to get some of that back. I know it is hard because emotionally there is an adjustment period where you are kind of "grieving' the loss of the ability to eat the way you did in the past - and for me the loss of a coping mechanism. But if you are able to deal with some of the underlying issues that frame your past relationship with food, when the restriction lessens as the healing progresses, you will be in a much better place to forge a healthier relationship with food moving forward. Good luck!

Thanks all. My post was not intended to say that I am giving in to anything its more of me realizing that my relationship with food was far greater then I had imagined before. The thought of being restricted still is a struggle but something that I know is beneficial in my new life. Thanks for all of the positive posts. I know I have a long road ahead and am ready to start the challenge

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
