thanks for the congrats ladies! I hope everything goes well for everyone.

lisalu: The at-home dopplers are really hard to work. My doctor advises her patients not to go near one lol! Because they will call her all the time thinking that the baby doesnt have a heartbeat and in reality the doppler is just malfunctioning. I understand though, you want your husband to hear the heartbeat too right?? Next time you go to the doctor's office, ask them to make you a tape recording of the baby's heartbeat, most doctors will do that for their patients. My friend even has a video of her ultrasounds! See if someone can help you use the doppler that has used one before...Im glad that my story calmed your nerves some. Its normal to be nervous, however those nerves go away and instinct kicks in and then your fine...I promise. If I can do it, anyone can LOL!

Candice- Congrats on your boy growing, I didnt realize it had already been 3 months!! WOW!

All the best ladies!

Hi Ladies,

I havent posted in a while I had my baby and just a quick tip do not take the IBUPROFEN. My dr had me take ibuprofen after labor and I had taken it for 6 days which caused my stomache to swell then I was unable to keep anything down, even Water it was pretty scary because Im breastfeeding and I definately needed to stay hydrated, but once they defilled some of the Fluid I was able to eat later on that day:)

Hey ladies! Just checking in to say hello. I'm 22 weeks now, and all is well so far. I go in to the OB again on Tuesday. I'm going every two weeks now because of blood pressure.

Anyone else sleeping like crap? I had a most wretched night last night. Couldn't fall asleep, terrible headache. My head hurt so bad I almost called the dr, but my BP was fine, so I figured I should just wait it out. I managed to sleep on and off for a grand total of 4 hours. At least my headache is better today.

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering what was up with this thread to Juno! Everyone's so quiet. I'm 15 weeks. I'm having some quad test on Tuesday for chromosome abnormalities. Funny, I always thought if I found out I was going to have a baby with downs syndrome, I might consider terminating the pregnancy. Now, that I am actually pregnant, there's no way I could ever terminate, NO MATTER WHAT. I can't wait to meet this kid! Hope you're all feeling good!!!

lisalu- what kind of doppler did you buy?? At Walmart type or the $400.00 type like your dr has?? I rented one for my first 2 pg from www.babybeat.com It is like $18. a month. Well I had spent enough that they credited 50% back to me and I was able to buy a professional grade one for this pg. I have no problems using it. I wouldnt use oil though I would just use lotion. If it is the walmart one you probably wont hear anything until 18-10 weeks. If it is a professional grade you should be able to hear it. Put the lotion on and place the probe right at your pubic bone really low. Then work side to side moving very slightly up till you locate it. Your baby should only be right above pubic hair line about right now. Good luck

Hi Jill,

I bought a cheap one on ebay for $38.00 from Hong Kong. I've gotten it to work occasionally. I don't panic if I can't hear the heartbeat, I just try another time. I'll try lotion next time. Thanks!

Hi,

I was banned in Oct 07, I got pregnant in March, didn't stick to my diet, two glasses of wine and you get a baby :cursing:. So far everything is going great, I have actually lost ten pounds since April 7th, bringing my weight loss to 73 pounds lost. My doc and surgeon both agree that I might not gain much weight, but I am starting to show some. This is my second pregnancy, first was very difficult, I was gestational diabetic from the 11th week with insulin shots. So far this pregnancy is a lot heathlier, no diabetes yet, hopefully I won't get it. The only real issue is that I am nauseous quite a bit and have to take pills for it. I have never gotten a fill which my surgeon says is good since I am now pregnant. I do eat a little more, especially at midnight I work second shift and by the time I get home I am extremely hungery most nights. I try to keep it in control and stick to 1500 - 2000 calories a day. So far so good, I hope to have a healthy baby by Thanksgiving.

Congrats on your pregnancy! And your 73 lb loss -- that is excellent!

I am 24 weeks now and have only gained 11lbs. There's a couple gals here who actually lost quite a bit during their pregnancy. Hopefully your nausea will go away soon!

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
