Pregnant and Banded...come join me!

I believe most get unfilled durring the pregnancy. Check with your pcp or check with the lapband doc. Most of those guys have toll free number dont they? Or email him. The empty stomach in the a.m. causes many to be sick. You may want to put a few crackers on your nightstand to have first thing in the a.m. Call some doc to check out what you should do, quickly. Take care and congrats.

Hello preggo mommies,

Its been almost aweek now since I posted last. Sorry. And welcome to all who have joined! so many of you are having lil boys! hehe Its so exciting. Is Bex the only one having a girl? I am still jealous! I will find out officially on the 22nd. It seems so far away. The holiday shopping has kept me pretty much pre-occupied so far. I did get to the doc last week- my urine test claimed I was fine. I almost bawled so he did a internal feel andI almost hit the roof in pain! He said my bladder was infected- so I got some meds. I started to feel better- but today I dont know- its just not a good feeling going on. I have not skipped a dose of meds and if I drink anymore liquids I might as well just stay on the toliet from peeing all the time lol. I see the doc again on the 26th. I hope I can make it. Its prolly stress related. Hey Bex, you mentioned a kneading pad? I can get that at Khols? Thats a kneading pad that you sit on? Sounds wonderful! I might add that to my christmas list! :) I need relief!

I made hubby put the tree up this year. I got to use the "but honey I am pregnant and cant get on the ladder!" as my excuse. Yays! The tree is almost 11 feet tall! No way was I going to do it, its so exhausting. We had fun decorating though. Ok, I must depart now! hope to hear from you all soon! *big belly hugs*

Hi Rayne and everyone!

Well I am 35 weeks and 5 days today. I had another ultrasound yesterday, to check on the baby's bladder, I guess there was something on the last ultrasound so they were checking baby again.. but my doctor told me not to worry about it, it shows up on many ultrasounds and is likely nothing. At any rate, my doctor's appointment last week she said the baby's head was way down and bum up by my left breast. Well ultrasound showed it still in the exact same position! Maybe I will be early? I do have another appointment tomorrow (as I go weekly now for appointments) so I will find out hopefully the ultrasound results then.

ON another note, I do NOT know the sex of my baby, we decided we wanted to wait till it was born. There are just so little surprises in life these days, and the anticipation is really starting to show in everyone's faces. I do however think I am having a girl! Just from all the old "wives tales" . We have a very fast heartbeat, carrying high, lots of acne which I was not prone to before... things like that. We are both hoping it is a girl anyways! (will be first girl on my husband's side and first grandchild for my side, not including the cousins babies of course)

Oh and a side note, I am finally going to the "bathroom" but it is still NOT great! I get a BM every 2 days now at least.. not much but its better than NOTHING!

Hope everyone else is doing great!

Candice

:help:Hi Everyone, I am 8 months out from having band surgery and just did reach the 50 lb loss... only to find out this Monday that I was PREGNANT... I had an IUD in, which they removed Tuesday, and well its to early to see how things are going but so far my hcg numbers have doubled. I am totally shocked right now and not sure what to do considering a lot of things are in limbo until I can get my first sonogram. I had my lap band doc apt Monday and he said it was ok..and that most of the time they didn't do anything to the band but maybe unfill it a little. I have a good restriction now.. Has anyone left their band filled and been ok eating? If so what did you eat? I need to eat healthier its just harder with my restriction.

Torn and confused.. lol as usual...

Thanks,

Brandi

Ok, I know everyone is busy with the holidays but wanted to give everyone an update!

i am on semi-bedrest. I have all the signs of preeclampsia (spelling?). My mom has had my daughter since wed and I miss her bunches. I am going first thing in the morning to stay with them for the weekend!

My IC has flared back up so I am back into the bladder treatments! I am 27 weeks so I am just taking it easy because I do not want to harm the baby at all! Hope everyone is well and ready for the holidays!!!!!!

Hi Raynie,

I also found out I was pregnant (unexpectedly) Dec. 3rd. I am waiting now for a sono on Tuesday to make sure the baby is in the right place and not ectopic because I had an IUD in. Is this your first pregnancy? My band doc said they probably wouldn't do anything, maybe unfill it a lil, and I think thats the route I am going to go. I don't want it totally unfilled but I would like to be able to eat without having to worry about the band issues esp... since pregnancy has enough of its own issues. Hope to hear from you soon.

Brandi

I have 5 ccs in my 10 cc band, and I wish I had more! I was completely de-filled when I found out I was pregnant, however I gained so much weight in the first month, that I went back to a fill. I still dont fell much restriction, but as the baby gets bigger (34 weeks now) there isnt much room left to eat alot and my breathing is getting harder! sleep is hard to come by these days too! I have decided to go on Maternity leave as of the end of next week. I can hardly wait! Anyways, speaking of sleep I am going back to bed for a nap! Sooo tired.

Hi Raynie,

I just found out I was unexpectedly pregnant, with #3, at the beginning of this month. I would love to chat with other bandsters who are pregnant. I am only 8 mo out from being banded and I just hit the 50lbs loss mark.

How far along are you?

Brandi

I am pregnant (about 8 weeks). We were IVF folks and I've been banded since 2003 with NO problems. Unfortunately my band reacted strangely to the IVF meds causing total restriction so I had an unfill. I go off the meds on 1/17, so on 1/18 I'll have a new fill :)

Welcome!! I was banded in february 07 lost about 50lbs then became pregnant in june 07 my total fill at that time was 3.2cc I gained about 5 lbs the first 16 weeks then I got defilled 0.4cc total restriction is now 2.8cc .Im now 26 weeks and I've gained an extra 15lbs which my OB doc says is expected. I probably could've done without the defill but I wanted to cut back on my Protein Shakes and eat more real food:) Now my diet consist of about 4 meals a day and a Protein Shake. Hope this helped, and congratulations!

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
