No, don't call it off! What you're going through is completely normal! I think if everyone who had to deal with the 2 week liquid diet called off their surgery because they were miserable, NOBODY would have surgery!

Okay, don't hate me, but my surgeon didn't require one. BUT I was on liquids for 6 weeks AFTER surgery, and it sucked.

I hear it gets better after the first couple days, and once you get over the hump, it's all downhill from there. You hating the pre op liquid diet has nothing to do with how successful you'll be post op. It sucks for everyone :) Hang in there! You can do this!

You can do this. Shift your mindset. You will be hungry, you will have headaches, you will be weak.... All of this is withdrawal from all of the bad things we have consumed for decades. Your body is giving up sugar and an overdose of carbs, and caffeine, poisons from processed foods. This step is tough but you can do it! It is actually a good thing. Don't cancel the surgery. Prove to yourself that you are stronger than you think you are.

I wish you could see what life is like on the other side after losing the weight and gaining control over food. There's just no way to describe it. So all I can do is tell you, it is ssoooooooo worth it.

The pre-op diet was the hardest part of the whole WLS adventure. Nothing I went through - All the tests, multiple 4 hour drives to meet the doctor and have the tests, the anxiety of taking such a huge step, and the gas pains after surgery - was as difficult as the pre-op diet. food had that much control over my life.

Don't give up. No one will do the work for you. You cannot depend on anyone else. Your success starts and ends with you. Personal responsibility is #1. You cannot have self-doubt. Do not let selflimiting beliefs hold you back. Create your plan. Get support. Set a deadline. Crush it.

If you want to change here's the truth

YES, you can. Yes, you can eat better. Yes, you can get up earlier. Yes, you can get back in shape at any age. Yes, you can change your attitude about life. Yes, you can achieve your big goals & dreams.

I was on a two week liquid diet pre-surgery and found the first three or four days were the worst. After that the headaches went away and I wasn't so hangry (hungry-angry). I managed to lose almost 20 lbs in those two weeks, and shrunk my liver for a safer surgery. You can do this, it really does get easier and it is so worthwhile.

@@maggie409 I copied your words and put it in a note on my phone to remind myself when the going gets tough. I start my liquid diet in two days and I'm constantly afraid of the failure. I feel like your words have given me a bit of peace. Thank you!

I am starting my liquid diet tomorrow, to make extra sure my liver is small enough! Looks like a lot of Protein Shakes, V8, Jello, and Crystal Lite!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
