Don't take it to heart. From my experience the only people that will say anything are close friends. Chances are they know you've struggled to lose weight and will be comfortable enough to mention it. This summer I ran into several people I know and not one person mentioned that I've lost weight. I'm down 80lbs and 4 pants sizes since I last saw them! I know they know. I just don't think they're comfortable enough to say it.

When I lost 50 lbs I got a few "you've lost weight" comments and they felt good. I work from home but go in to the office for occasional meetings. One particular woman goes overboard, though, and just goes on and on about how wonderful I look now and isn't it amazing how great I look and generally just gushes on and on. She had no idea I had WLS. All that wild gushing made me VERY uncomfortable and I would rather not hear a word than endure that. It makes me feel like I was quite a grotesque sight before losing weight! Be careful what you wish for. ????

Men in my office notice but after our last sexual harassment training they are afraid to say anything! For example, I was talking about losing weight to another female colleague. A gentleman that we work with walked up and said "you lost weight wow congratulations." But then he hesitated, I told him it was okay "I don't think that you are sexually harassing me." Everyone laugh and the day went on! The work environment can be crazy, funny and stressful!

I've had people look at me for a few seconds and then ask if I have a new hair style. I always feel like saying that I do - a much slimmer face under the hair!

I put my foot in my mouth once telling a coworker how great she looked, how much weight had she lost, etc. Come to find out she had cancer. She had lost weight due to the chemo/radiation therapy. I felt so bad but she had a good sense of humor and said it was the worst way to lose it but was a good outcome. Now I just say how good everyone looks.. they can volunteer the weight loss secret if they are so inclined! LOL Lesson learned the hard way.

@@LadyK44, a man at my church actually commented to my husband rather than to me because he didn't want it to look like he was doing/saying anything inappropriate!! Funny -- although I appreciate his sensitivity.

I hadn't seen most of my family in a year... lost 80 pounds... and barely got a "you look good" It was quite disappointing to say the least...

At work, with people who see me all the time, I get more responses..

BUT I also get more than I want from people at work...

"Oh, you look great! Whatever you are doing is working... I have this great diet program that I am on.. I will send it to you for you to follow...."

I tell them that I am good with the program/lifestyle I am currently doing.. and they STILL try to tell me what I should and should not be eating...

and I get comments about how my rear is getting smaller... Well, DUH... can't lose 80+ lbs and not lose some of the caboose... Imagine if I had lost weight/inches everywhere EXCEPT the backside....

I had to double take whether or not I posted this. Lol I went to my old school and the one person I told didn't say anything. No, one noticed that was at about 40 lbs down. My hubby tells me all the time. My step daughter is the one who really shocked me when she noticed I am at about 50lbs down now.

I don't care but I walk and act like a thin girl flaunting my good health and started walking/jogging about a month ago (3 miles a day) I was late for class and started my jog to class you'd swear I was 18 and 125lbs. lol thats how I felt

I think it is reasonable to expect that the only people who will say anything until you are very near your goal will be people that know you've had the surgery. At a certain point (by percentage of total body mass), people will know it is obvious that you have done something. But early on, even if they notice something, they may not be sure whether it is intentional...you could be ill or otherwise not losing weight for a good reason. They all would rather be safe than sorry. Additionally, some of them are probably very familiar with weight loss efforts, either of their own or of people close to them, and therefore don't find it too remarkable a subject any longer.

Just the other day I saw someone I hadn't seen in a few months. They said wow you look so pretty, what's different about you? Did you get a new haircut? I just laughed and said I was rested and relaxed because I just returned from vacation. I so wanted to say hey it's because I lost 123 pounds for goodness sake. I wear a size six instead of a 24.

I got a good laugh out of it said thank you and moved on.

I have come to the conclusion most people just don't notice others a lot so it takes a huge change for them to notice. I notice and that's all that matters

Congrats on your weight loss!!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
