How/What should I be eating in this stage?

Recommended Posts

5 weeks post op, I am always hungry still so far and not sure what I should be eating throughout the day or how much

I was going to try Protein Shakes throughout the day then 1 low cal dinner making for 1200 calories per day but I quickly realized that won't work, I was so hungry and light headed all day.

What does everyone eat at this stage?

I want to lose weight consistently but not end up bingeing from being too hungry and too deprived.

Protein Shakes will not give you the satiety you need. You need to eat food, not drink your meals. Can I suggest you try what I did? I followed a weight watchers type of plan. I ate 3 oz. Protein, 1/2 cup of veggies and 1/4 cup of carbs for lunch and dinner. Breakfast was often a packet of cream of wheat or oatmeal. eggs once in a while as well. I tried to stay at around 1,100 calories daily. By following this basic plan, I lost over 150 lbs.

Sounds like a plan, thanks!

Can you give me examples of some choices for the 1/4 cup of carbs part? Not sure what kinds of foods fit into that besides potatoes, bread, etc

I've never gotten a fill. Just lucky enough to have never needed one. But that allows me to eat any type of carb including rice and Pasta. I know some bandsters cannot eat these types of carbs so I would suggest carbs that you can handle..or of course you can ask the doctor and/or nutritionist.

Hi there, do not despair -- you are in Bandster Hell. You've had your surgery but have not had fills to dim your appetite. Don't worry, hang on, you will get there! Pay attention to everything -- this time is all about listening to your body. Try to nail your triggers down and "be" with your cravings. This will help you as you work with your doctor to get the folks you need to have the band working properly. Meanwhile kat yourself in the back for all you're doing -- don't beat yourself up. Make good choices and know that the band, properly adjusted, will help you do just that. For now you need to suck it up and do it on your own but it won't always be this way. Put those medical professionals to work! I had my first fill at one month out and am some one who needed several to get to the green zone.

My doctor prescribed an appetite suppressant to help until I got to the green. They never really worked before but really helped out this time.

Try planning your meals ahead a day or so so you dont make poor choices if you suddenly get hungry. Portion out your foods into different marked containers so you can just grab and go. Having everything ready to go helped me alot, and I couldn't use the excuse of " I didn't have time to cook/fix it so I grabbed junk food/fast food." Good luck !!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
