@@Alex Brecher Was that The Cambridge Diet? Those shakes were the worst! You may be too young to remember The Cambridge Diet. Nothing but shakes, and it cost close to a fortune! I wonder if that stuff is still around. Probably somewhere with the Aydes candies. lol

Don't remember the Cambridge diet. Could have been a Shaklee or similar brand.

I neither deny or confirm trying any of the aforementioned crazy diets or programs. ;) When I was younger, bicycling helped me keep off the pounds. As I got older and arthritis kicked in, looking at a bike made my knee whine. After every failed or temporarily successful diet, my body's Set Point would go up. 200, 225, 250, 275, 300 and higher. It was as if my body was punishing me for having made the attempt. Finally my body robbed me of my joy of walking to the point where going down a flight of stairs was a cost benefit analysis in pain. Hopefully this WLS takes care of this.

@@Nikasio, I was only weeks or months away from being wheelchair bound due to joint degeration when I got banded. FF to weight loss and bi-lateral hip replacement and today, I can do almost anything any able bodied person can do. It was a long and painful process to get here, but I walked all over my neighborhood yesterday...up and down stairs as well and didn't have any issues.

For me, this is nothing short of a miracle. Here's to hoping you get your miracle as well.

Ayds...boy do I remember that box. My late aunt who was always on some diet or another always kept a box of them on the coffee table...like regular folk who would leave out a box of Hershey's or Russell Stover's. She had me try them...because lord knows, I could have dropped a few lbs. myself even at the tender age of ten.

We get the negativity early, don't we? No wonder we have such poor self images...

I remembered the "Metabolic Centers" That was a place here where you could buy their shakes, puddings, etc. and weight in weekly. it was pretty expensive and it would work if you only had their Protein stuff. any variance would throw you out of whack . It was another failed diet on my part and if I had all of the money I have spent over the past 25 years or so on gimmicks and so called weight los programs I would be wealthy. The lapband was my last hope and 2 1/2 years later I'm still at my goal and living healthy. I hope I never go back to where I was.

I found the 'Pamela Anderson Diet' in my local paper and tried that for a while and lost weight on it, but also felt like hell. Nutrisystem was crazy expensive and I hated the food. I tried SMOKING because one of my friends told me it would definitely help with weight loss but it was so gross I almost immediately quit. Yep, my early 20's were chocked full of bad decisions.

She may not be a good example for a diet. I heard of a video that she starred in where she stuffed too much in her mouth.

(Sorry, I digressed :)).

In the mid-70's I went on the first liquid Protein diet. You were only allwed this horrible orange artificially sweetened Syrup. The Protein was extracted from cow hooves. Yuck! Growing up, my dad would always challenge me to a weight loss contest (and guess who always won?!) using the "Mayo Diet". eggs and grapefruit. Hated eggs.

@@gowalking Good to hear that your joint replacement surgery was successful. I am at the point where I have to decide whether to replace a knee or a hip first. My orthopedist has done thousands of both and he keeps telling me that I have a high tolerance for pain, because he has had to do hip replacements on better looking joints than mine. Sooner or later, I will have to break down and go for it.

Mine wasn't really a diet I guess. But my most stupid weight loss attempt was "weight loss shots". This was back in the 70's. The doctor never would tell my girlfriend and I what these shots actually were, just kept telling us they would help us lose the weight. It sounded good back then. Now that I have experienced more of life, I suspect I was paying a lot of money for getting shot up with sterile Water.

Can anyone top this one for pure stupidity?

You're not alone on this one either. I too went to a 'diet' doctor for mystery shots. At this point, I hope they were just filled with saline and not something else.

For me it was also the cabbage Soup diet... The banana day! haha! What the heck? No one has mentioned Atkins here yet I don't think.. I'm vegetarian so didn't do this, but my hubby would sit with a giant plate of cheesy eggs, ham, and greasy bacon for Breakfast, and big fatty steaks for lunch and dinner and wonder why he never lost weight. A heart attack waiting to happen!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
