Are stalls real or do we just make excuses ?

Recommended Posts

.... I was down to eating no more then 500 calories daily......I was putting on weight every time I went back. including insulin resistant, 1 side thyroid dead from being destroyed the other side enlarged and put on thyroid med for 3 months prior to her sending me to WLS that I was prime candidate for this surgery. .......just wanted to share my experience I have lived on the medical issues of weight hanging on for dear life and increasing despite changing lifestyle diet I did 2 yrs ago ......

This is very interesting to me!

Even though you were eating no more than 500 calories per day, you were putting ON weight.

Then your endocrinologist sent you for WLS after getting your thyroid condition under control?

My question is, do you think your weight gain was JUST thyroid related? If so, why WLS considering you were managing calories to less than 500 per day?

If not, do you think the WLS has helped despite the thyroid issue?

Thanks! And continued success :)

I have been to see her twice since the surgery we havnt adjusted my armour thyroid at all still on low dose, I am on target for weight loss from the surgery, my bw on my thyroid panel is at optimal levels not just within range, I deal with hashis, lupus, fibro, I live a clean diet have for 3 yrs no junk is bought the only difference or change iv done is we are eating full fat diet..and no fat free. The first month of surgery yrs I was on ff...after that I included fat in diet ..the surgery was and is a tremendous tool for me and I am very limited on activity..I don't do what you would consider the gym life..I'm alot more active but I manage ..so far so good. Also the role insulin resistance plays, I could not reverse this on the clean diet alone bw showed this along with scale not going down..as soon as I did this sleeve it reversed. Combination for me...I still watch what I eat..????

Well said Alex

This concept is very similar to when people say I am fat because of my genetics ignoring the fact that consume 5000 calories a day and don't blame their eating habits. My stalls in the past have been my fault I had extra calories creep in while I'll under estimate my total calories reduce exercise and wonder why I am stalling.

Then you are taking your own failings and applying them to others. What caused YOUR stalls may not be universal.

I should have said Water retention. To lose 10 lbs in a week you need to burn 35000 calories.

I only burned 10,000 thru 10 hours of exercising last week.. Wonder how much that equates to total.

I am not applying my failings to others I'm just giving my opinion. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

As many others will agree with me the machines don't give out proper amount of calaries burned.

I saw this early this morning tweeted by Dr. Neil Floch. It is definitely worth the viewing, and it helps explain some of the "theory's" about weight loss that have been going around here quite well.

I don't go by the machines, I wear a heart rate monitor.. I run and bike many miles during the week. I agree, workout machines are highly overinflated.

So...has anyone considered the possibility that this obsession with calorie math is just another symptom of underlying issues with "relation with food"?

Like most of you have been on enough programs to know that I lose weight when I restrict calories and am.more active. The exact numbers around that are simply not so predictable.

Example... I never did low carb diets before sleeve presurgery diet. I believed in calorie math and so it made no sense to me. I found real success once I dropped the calories

Dropped the calorie counting focus and moved to eating the way my body responds best.

I agree. I found that the whole post-op experience is a total contrast to my pre-op "dieting" life and SEEMS counterintuitive at first.

Fortunately, I have an excellent surgeon who gets it and did a great job explaining the how and whys of how my new metabolism works.

Believe it or not eating enough Protein, drinking enough Water, and exercising are the keys. It is working great for me so far and I trust my surgeon and NUT.

I'm currently going through a stall right now...

Started about 2-3 weeks post op and WILL NOT END!

I'm 1-month post op today.. how long do these stalls normally last?

Hang in there! I went thru a stall that lasted almost 6 or 8 wks..can't remember exact it was very frustrating on the scale but the inches were melting

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
