Well I'm officially out of the 300's ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????? I hit 289 this morning ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I'm gonna ride the high as long as I can. Clothes fit way better, and yesterday was 6 weeks post-op, so working out on Bowflex and other weight lifting, went great... And my ab workout on exercise ball was perfect too... Good luck to you guys... Keep it up...

I don't know why some of my smiley faces turned into that symbol.

Hooray !!!! So awesome. Whatever your doing just keep it up. ????

Ain't that the truth!!!! I'm noticing that I'm getting less and less head hunger pains, and am having to remember to eat phase. I'm still getting my 70+ grams of Protein in and 64oz of Water, but mainly from my Protein Shakes. I got sick off my beloved chicken, and am to scared to try again to soon. I'm doing apt of cheese and salads with veggies... I'm feeling like I'm fu*@@ing up my diet for some reason by being this way... Like I'm failing at getting proper nutrition. But things taste so different, and haven't gone back to normal yet, so I'm still limited on what I like. I know it'll change.... So no worries ???? I feel like I'm on the Atkins diet right now lol.

This has been an awesome thread to read. You May people have really inspired me and given me some good ideas. Don't know when I'll have mine - hoping for early September. I was reading about everyone's pain and some of the things you've had to put up with and was wondering if I could go thru it. Then realized that the very reason I'm laying here at 1 in the morning massaging my legs and reading is because my legs, knees, hips and ankles hurt too much to sleep. Made a quick video to remind myself how much physical pain is involved in carrying around all this extra weight. This is pain with no reward; hassles and pain post surgery will have great long term rewards, I hope. You all keep up the good work and the hope!

Welcome to the thread!!!! Those aches and pains are starting to really disappear for me, even with the 60lbs gone in 6 weeks.. The pain is sooooooo worth it. Don't let the thought of pain scare u at all. Pain meds will help so much. The first 3 days were the toughest when meds stopped doing their thing lol... Just stay ahead of dosage ever so slightly, but of course listen to what your Dr. says, cause obviously I'm no doc. Good luck on your journey ????

It was a 2 week stall for me so don't fret... It'll happen for us. But honestly, as you know, our bodies will let go of the weight when it wants to!! Not on our time schedule lol..

Hi All! Just checking in. It's been a while since my last post, which was about my atelectasis (partial lung collapse.) Thankfully, I am fully recovered. I guess I've been waiting for something big to happen, obviously that won't be the case. Ive been a little disappointed that my weight loss hasn't been as quick as some of yours. I've been losing around 2 pounds each week for the past several... Sometimes I feel like I'm failing. Today is 6 weeks and Ive lost almost 22 pounds since surgery day, which is 10% of my surgery weight. In the two months Before surgery, I had lost 15lbs, which brings my total to 37 down. Sometimes it seems as if Im overeating, and sometimes I feel as if I've been undereating, which just goes to show I am still crazy! So Ive starting being more diligent about logging my food on My Fitness Pal... Looks like Ive been mostly keeping it under 600 cals a day. I am still struggling to get enough fluids in. Im lucky to be making 48oz a day, certainly not the 64oz I had hoped for. I have been walking at least 4 days a week between 4 - 5.25 miles each time.. I haven't added any strength training yet. I am just so eager to cross the threshold into Onederland (1.8pounds away >:( Sometimes, I just get so discouraged. Thanks so much for the heads up @@Salonboi on the eatslower app, I have definitely been improving on slowing down (1min 20 secs between bites) I know that I am driving my husband and daughter crazy with all of this, Its so great to know that you are all here on the same journey! <3 May Peeps! (and all our bariatricpals too!)

Gosh I'm so glad you are on the mend!!!! You are making amazing progress!!!! You can't compare yourself to anyone else's weight loss at all!!!! As you know (lol) we are all individually different, so don't psyc yourself out in that part.

The logging on My Fitness Pal is a complete must!!!! Obviously us just eyeing portions didn't work. Not saying that's what you did, but you said, your being more diligent!!! It has to be with every single anything ???? and the Fluid at 64oz a day is a must to!!!! Sipping all day can be taxing, but staying focused enough to regularly sip, it's possible!!!! It's almost a habit for me now. That water bottle goes everywhere with me.... I found a bottle that hold exactly 64oz, and I know that when that bottle is empty, I've completed my Water goal. I found having a smaller bottle, made me be less mindful of the filling it back up part.. To easy to forget how many times it's been filled... So maybe try that. I can sip so much more at a time now... So that's made it so much easier to get in all my fluids...

You are rocking it out on the walking!!!!! Keep it up. Think of the muscle you are building walking that much. One thing I'd ask your NUT is, with that many calories being burned walking, maybe you need to bump up your calories. OBVIOUSLY talk to a professional, cause OBVIOUSLY I'm no Dr. Lol. But maybe you are creating to much of a negative deficit, calories wise with all that walking... This is my first week with strength training, and I'm so happy to be able to again.. The toning is so key for my mind set.. I'm gonna try to keep things from sagging to bad.. ????

The failing part is on my mind to, as you've probably read in a post of mine.. I'm trying to keep my thinking as positive as possible!!! I'm a firm believer in Law Of Attraction.. So I'm not wanting failure to be a reality.. We really are eating brand new, in the sense of what our new tummies can handle.... So that adventure is Awesome/Scary all at the same time. I didn't grow up in an adventurous eating type home. We grew up poor, so lots of whatever was on sale, not so always good for you food. And that has really limited my thinking with food. I'm not doing to good with exploring with food yet, and that's, I think is what's giving me the failure thinking. I find myself trying to recreate familiar foods, some successful and some not... But those foods I think are some of my trigger foods. Like pizza for instance.. But I'll never not have a piece again, but maybe knowing that that helped my obesity, maybe I shouldn't try to recreate!? I just wish to be more adventurous. My partner grew up in the same way, so it's a double whammy, in the sense of not branching out. Well I guess as this new life progresses, things will evolve the way they need to.. So I'm just gonna let it be, what it be lol...

And no problem on the eating slower app.. I use it for every time I eat. I've really noticed the feelings of being full eating that way. I get that slight pressure and I know I'm done. It's taken time to get to know those sensations, as my former big boy self wants big bites, with big plates full of food lol... I still have a sad wasteful feeling when I can't finish my plate, but that's what was ingrained in me, as most of us.. I definitely save whatever I can in tupperware, but you can't re-weigh a salad that's all mixed together. So that part I've not figured out for the logging food part.

Well I've rambled enough lol.. Everyone keep your heads high, and Celebrate all your successes big or small ❤️????????????

I hope everyone is doing well!!?? It's been awfully quiet lately.. I know for me, I'm just getting settled into my routines and moving on with my new life. I actually had someone say as a greeting to me today "Hey Skinny " I have to admit I liked that. I still feel like the fat dude, but realizing it's not completely true anymore. I'm getting there I always say.. I don't know about y'all, but I'm about sick of telling my story.. All my clients wanna hear all about it lol I'm grateful anyone wants to hear it in the first place lol. Everyone have a great day...

Well howdy! It has been awfully quiet!

I am too just trying to get back into everything. I finally stopped viewing the diet we have to follow as a 'diet'. It's simply my life now and if I want to have campfire donuts or s'mores I'm going to!

I also went drinking with my sister (who also had the bypass) on Saturday last week and it was honestly the weirdest thing to be drunk and sober three separate times in the matter of 4 hours!

Also, as of yesterday, I am officially off ALL my blood pressure medicine!

Also, I'm down to a size 18-20 in jeans when I started at a size 24 :)

Life is sooooo damn good, and I have zero regrets!

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?
      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
