Hello all. Hoping everyone is doing well.

Just sharing a bit. Milk : fair life fat free has 13g Protein per cup and taste good.

I made a smoothie today

Half banana , half cup milk, 2 tbsp PB2 , half scoop unflavored Protein Powder and half cup ice. Blended and was delicious. About 160 calories and 20g protein.

That sounds delicious.

And yes! I mix the chocolate and vanilla fair life between my meals to get both my Calcium and protein in! :)

Where can I buy unflavored protein powder?

I hope my May Peeps are doing ok? Everyone is being kinda quite!!!

Life has been pretty busy with me, being on my 3rd week back at work, so it's understandably crazy for us all getting used to our new lives, eating to live, not living to eat!!!

I have one more week and I can full on exercise again. My Bowflex misses me, as does my exercise ball for ab exercises... Definitely ready to start toning again.

My stall has been broken, 3 something pounds in 2 days so far ????.. I'm able to wear some clothes I've never fit in, and some I used to love to wear... It's gotten me a bit more pumped to get up, and try on something new/already in my drawers lol. It's like shopping in my own closet.. Hugs and Love and Prayers to you all ????❤️????????

Yayyayayayayayyyyy this is great news!

So glad your stall has ceased! Mine has started to as well:) it's a fantastic feeling.

I get my protein powders at GNC

So happy for you that your stall is now in the past.

Out of curiosity, how much did you lose the first 3 weeks post op? And how often did you weigh yourself. I think I might be getting a little obsessed with the scales.

I started at 321, 3 weeks post op I weighed 290, now I'm almost a month post op and I'm stalled around 288-289.

I'm obsessed with the scale too.

I weigh everyday but I only record my weight on Mondays!

I lost 25.2 pounds just from surgery, during those 3 weeks. Then a 2 week stall ???? but losing again now... A total of 49 since pre-op diet to today. And I weigh everyday. Yes it's an obsession, but it motivates me.

I called and spoke with my surgeon because I've been pretty short of breath while I was out the last few days. Apparently it's normal. I also asked about my weight. (Haven't lost anything in 3 days) and he said to NOT weigh myself at all... He said if I absolutely have to weigh myself to do so only once a week but he really discourages it. So i think I might have my husband hide my scale. It's driving me nuts not seeing the scale move.

Hi all I'm back for the moment I've been in the hospital for 10 days ic had to take a break from everything hospital stay is been really tough. I've been kind of depressed and feeling that I made the worst mistake of my life because this pain is truly horrible I mean it's unbearable. So I have been staying away because I didn't want to be a Debbie Downer for you guys but having said that I am feeling better I think my depression was just the scariness of what could happen and feeling very lethargic. but the last few days since I've been home I've been feeling a lot better I feel with more Protein I'm getting more energy and I'm getting that excitement back. since being admitted I just felt like I've been run over by two trucks. anyway I'm feeling really well and then yesterday I weighed myself and I am down to now 375 plus another additional 25. Since I went into the ER so I'm feeling better about that and I'm I'm generally feeling better about the overall surgery again I just taking a break from everything. sorry there's not much punctuation in this it's because voice recognition.

Hi all thank you for your thoughts and prayers, doing good for the moment. a little bit of discomfort and neck pain but I still also have some liquid and air trapped in my stomach it was like doing the surgery all over again. so he's going to check my CT scan today well another one and tomorrow if he might let me go home tomorrow. He will have a nurse come by every day to feed me through the PICC line.

For some reason I just can't help but feeling like I never should have done the surgery. The doctor said this is a statistic that rarely ever happens but it does happen. so keep your prayers up for me and keep me in your thoughts and we all will push through this and it goes without saying that I love all you peeps here on this gastric bypass board

How are things going ? Do you still have picc line? Was thinking of you and hoping you getting better.

It's so hard to not weigh yourself.. I do that and measure, everyday.

How have you been doing? I'm still trucking along ???? still miss certain foods, but it's gotten easier as the days pass. We had a birthday party for my son day before yesterday, and I even grilled all the meat. I had some of a burger and a few bites of a blackened hot dog (which I love)... Now mind you it was very small amounts of both.. The burger made me sick, as I've had a turkey hot dog before with no issues. It lasted 4 hours. Yes 4 hrs.... I was miserable. I'll definitely try it again in the future... I was proud of myself, in that I didn't sample the cake or ice cream, for fear of getting sick lol.. That's really been it, just super busy at work and living my new life.. I hope it's good on everyone's end too...

ONE MONTH!!!

Sorry about the lapse!

Yesterday I surprised my sister with Ed Sheeran concert tickets so we saw him last night! Amazing live!!

Things have definitely tested me this past month and I've learned so much about portions and about how hard it is to view yourself in a different way after losing weight, but seeing progress makes it oh so worth it.

Today, I weighed in at 285. This is 45 pounds from my highest weight of 330.

I'm unsure of what my blood pressure has been doing, but I can only hope it has been getting lower since I've dropped these 45 pounds!

Here's some pictures too!! post-253319-14340290447642_thumb.jpg post-253319-1434029060531_thumb.jpg

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
