Surgery is May 18. I start my pre-op diet on April 20 for a four week liquid diet. I've been on a low carb diet per my nutritionists orders since February and I've lost 29 pounds on that so far. I've been getting discouraged because I thought almost 30 pounds would FEEL like something but my clothes don't seem different and I don't feel different.

But today I realized my office chair at work isn't digging into my hips because of the arms anymore. I have wiggle room!

A small thing. But I feel better now.

Any NSV's before surgery for you guys?

Awesome!!! Celebrate your 29 lb. loss!! For every pound we lose, we're that much healthier! Having "wiggle room" in chairs with arms is a fantastic feeling!!!

I don't know about you, but for my entire life, it always took at least 20 lbs. of weight lost before I could feel any difference in my clothes and to lose one size. Post-surgery It wasn't until I'd lost about 50 lbs. before people started telling me it was time to buy some better fitting clothes.

Hang in there!!! You will get there :)

Good luck on your journey!!

Congrats! Just think- that's 30 pounds you won't have to lose after surgery. You get to use that "honeymoon" time after WLS on the more stubborn 30 pounds that will be coming off down the road. I was in a size 26 pant before surgery and it took a LONG time/ lot of weight to get to where I had to go down a size. I really don't get it- I was in those pants for a good 70-80 pound span (although by the time I bought new ones they were really big). Now I go down a size about once a month or every other month. Good luck to you and enjoy it!

Yay! NSV's are wonderful and inspiring. Congrats on your awesome weight loss before surgery! Don't worry about not changing clothing sizes much at this point. Plus size clothes are cut generously and usually have a lot of give in them. Also, I tended to wear my same size clothes even as I gained weight the clothes just gradually stretched with me. I started in a very tight size 22 jeans and it took almost 50 pounds before I was able to get into a size 20 jeans. It took so long because my jeans were so tight prior to surgery and I refused to buy bigger pants because I knew surgery was coming and I wouldn't be wearing them long. Secondly, I carry my weight around my middle which sucks for pants because even though my legs, butt, and arms were losing quickly, my belly and waist line didn't. I was stuck in my baggy jeans until I lost enough in my waist to be able to wear the smaller jeans. Hang in there and you will be dropping sizes soon. Keep up the great work and we will see you on the loser's bench soon!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
