Who uses a fitbit?

Recommended Posts

I am looking into purchasing a fitbit. Does everyone like theirs and which one do you have. I like the smaller design of the fitbit flex, but I would like one that keeps track of stairs climbed. Does it motivate you it keep moving?

I have a charge and I LOVE it. Got it for my birthday a week before surgery. It does help keep me motivated. Between it and MyFitnessPal (they sync), I do pretty well on the tracking and they keep me in line better than before. And yes, I have found that the fitbit helps me to do more - when I'm close to a milestone, I'm more likely than not to do more activity and hit the milestone.

I have the fitbit hr. My son gave it to me for Christmas.... Best gift!!!!

It motivates me to move and beat records that are set such as 10,000 steps a day, 5 miles a day etc. To see your fitbit congratulate me on my accomplishments or encourage me to finish my daily goals really help me. This one tracks heart rate , steps, miles, sleep, and stairs climbed.

I love my Fitbit Charge. It is an absolute must that I reach my goal of 15,000 steps a day and the device really helps motivate me to do that. I used to be satisfied with getting close to my goal but as I shed the weight, I step up my game. I only remove it to shower so it has definitely become a part of me so to speak.

I love my fitbit, its helps me stay accountable for my exercise. I set goals and look forward to reaching them by the end of the day.

Yep, have the Charge and love it -- I'm not an expert in all the syncing apparatus, but it definitely is a motivator for steps--hubby and I have a friendly game of competition about steps, ie, if we go to costco, we'll take the long way around to get to whatever aisle we're looking for just to get our # of steps up, lol -- every little bit helps!

QVC has a fitbit on special right now for 100.00. My mom got it for me for an early birthday present. I am excited to start using it

The marketers behind the FitBit were brilliant...they launched the notion that we must do 10,000 steps/day and then they launched their product that would track that recommendation for us. (The 10,000 steps/day was not based on anything scientific, just a desire to better sell their product.)

That said, it's cute, it's easy to use and sync, and it is super motivating. There's a whole lot of psychology behind how they built it to motivate and gosh it sure works.

I have one of the originals...the One, nothing fancy but does the trick. When I see I'm getting near that 10,000 mark but it's almost midnight...I'll walk in place just to hit the milestone!

I thought the 10000 steps recommendation came from the surgeon general?

Here's a hilarious piece about the FitBit. The 10,000 step recommendation originated as a marketing tactic.

Well, not just a marketing tip. 20 years ago, when I was on Jenny Craig (or was it Lindora, of was it...) they recommended 10K steps. So, it wasn't a FitBit original.

I have the Fitbit Flex and I LOVE it! It definitely motivates me to move more! Reaching my daily goal always makes me feel good about myself and when I start reaching my goal to easily I raise it. In the 3 months since my surgery I've gone from 3,000 or so steps a day to over 10,000! I purchased a really cute necklace from etsy to wear it in so I don't have to wear the band when I'm more dressed up.

I have a fitbit charge, and it's great for keeping me honest. Now I find myself always trying to get extra steps, for example parking far away at the grocery store. I don't think fit bit came up with the 10K steps a day. Actually the app uses an algorithm to determine how many steps a day you should be doing initially, and over time as you become more active, that step goal increases. When I first bought mine, it initially recommended 8k steps a day as a goal, now I'm up to 15k steps a day.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
