Hi all, at two months post op, what was your caloric intake? My but never told me how many calories I should be eating, but I will bring it up next visit.

I have never tracked my caloric intake. I just make sure that I eat when it's time. Everyday I eat pretty much the same thing, except for dinner. That is my only variation. It make it much easier to be a creature of habit for the long haul.

I think I averaged between 550 and 650.

My nutritionist said she was more concerned with getting in 60 grams of Protein, limiting my carbs and getting my Water in. She said the calories wouldn't be an issue since at that stage I couldn't eat more than about 800 anyway.

I track in My Fitness Pal so I see what the calorie totals are. But I really use it to make sure I get my 60 g of Protein and limit my carbs to less than 60. Calorie total is not per my nutritionist guidelines something I need to focus on.

BTW, I find that she is correct. As long as I'm following my eating guidelines I'm not exceeding 800. However I'm only 3 months out so I'm assuming that will increase over time.

So, if I'm eating more than that..does that mean I stretched out my tummy?

No. We're all different and calories will vary. Keep in mind that 3-4 oz of food could contain very few calories or hundreds of calories depending on calorie-dense the food is. You're likely on a low-carb, lower-fat, high-protein diet, so you food won't be very calorie dense.

However, people who gain weight are often eating calorie-dense foods (fried foods, sugary foods, starches, etc.) and/or eating more often.

So keep in mind that it isn't just the quantity but the quality of the food also that matters.

I was eating about 600 at one month out and was told by my coord. I should be getting more. Try to work up to 1000-1200 I was told, (which seemed impossible at the time) but Protein is more important than the calorie count. I did as instructed bouncing between 1000-1200 with 80ish g of Protein. Lost slow and steady without major stalls and have settled into maintenance with a metabolism that I hope will work for a lifetime.

I'm 5 weeks post-op, slowly transitioning to stage 4, and I get between 500 and 550 per day. I use MyFitnessPal religiously to ensure I'm getting enough Protein, but my surgeon said to use it for life. He also said to remain under 1,000 calories for life. So far not hard to do!

BTW -- do calories puked back up still count?

I'm definitely under a 1000 but I'm not as low as 550-600. I'm having no problem whatsoever with foods. Not sure about vomiting back up tho

My nut just increased me to 700 because I was having some issues with my weight loss slowing. She thinks my body was in starvation mode. It just depends how your body reacts. Everyone is different.

Oh wow, I think this is why my body has been freaking out since surgery....I usually get under 300 calories a day and I will sometimes burn off around 100 on a recumbent bike....Usually have consumed under 200 from 7am-5pm. (before dinner) That could be why my heart rate is acting so crazy when I try to do anything!!!!!!!!!

I'm only 3 weeks out but hard to even get 400 and almost half of that is milk and honey in my tea. I'm assuming this is normal at this stage. I'm never hungry and basically repulsed by food.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
