Are there any classroom teachers on here?

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for surgery on April 21st and have three weeks off to recover and get accustomed to "eating" before I go back to work to finish out the school year. I am wondering how people, especially teachers, handle food and drink during the work day. Thank you for anything you can share that might help me out.

I used to be a classroom teacher but still work for a school system. Honestly, I find the handling of food and drink much easier then I'd thought. Since we never really got much time to eat anyhow, I'm perfectly fine with nursing a giant Protein drink all morning, then another in the afternoon. It's tough when the PTA brings goodies in, or the students bring you treats for one reason or another, but it's up to us what we actually eat. It seems like so many folks are jumping on the Protein shake bandwagon for Meal Replacements, (surgery or not) that I can't think of a single time where someone's asked me where my lunch was, or why I wasn't eating. Best of luck to you :)

I am only one week out and haven't returned back to work but I am a preschool teacher (so in the classroom) I keep a Water bottle available to sip whenever I can get back to my desk while playing. I take it outside too. I guess i am fortunate my kids eat snack so during the liver shrink diet I would just eat a yogurt while they ate snack then pack a small lunch. I plan on drinking a Protein shake in the car while driving my kids to school and on my way to work. I am dreading Easter parties and teacher appreciation week (which of course is the week I get back) I will have to bring home all the goodies to my kids.

Good luck on your surgery in a couple of weeks. I, too, am a classroom teacher and wondering the same things for the coming year. I haven't got an official date, but will be getting a date this week. I plan to have rny surgery on or around June 15th, the Monday after school is out. Then I think I will have about 8 weeks before going back.

Please let me know how you do and what it is like when you go back. I teach 5th grade.

Did you have to do a liquid pre-op diet? I think I will be doing one the last two weeks of school. How was that for you at school?

I start my liquid diet tomorrow and then have surgery on the 21st. I have a game plan and hope it works well for me. I have only told three people at school what surgery I am having so don't want it to be obvious that I am not eating. I usually lunch in my room anyway so am thinking it won't be a problem.

I am a 2nd grade teacher. My surgery is scheduled for May 6th. I am taking the rest of the school year off but plan to go in the last week for just an hour or so to say goodbye to the children. I will work the last workday (the day after the children are out). Hubby and some friends are going to help me pack up my room. Kids' last day is May 21st so I will just be a smidge over 2 weeks out of surgery. EEK!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
