Question for the slow losers

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the encouragement all. Im too stuck on the you have to lose the majority of your weight by 6 months thing. It seemed like such a daunting task once I hit around 200 lbs and the scale was crawling by. I don't need to lose 20 lbs a month but at least let the scale move down every week. I wasnt doing that and I was becoming very frustrated. I was pretty sick over the weekend and not focused on my weight at all, I gave my pouch a rest and was really focusing on fluids since my appetite took a dive. I lost 6 lbs but not in the way I wanted to. I know this is a life style change I guess I just need to wrap my head around the fact of it not being a sprint off the jump. I've always been an impatient individual and I guess my body let me know that, it will do its thing the way it wants and no amount of me begging will change it. Lol.

As of this morning I'm up 0.4 pounds from exactly two weeks ago today. Argh! The worst part is, I know that when this stall breaks, I'm only going to lose like 1 pound. Not nearly enough to "make up" for not having lost for 2+ weeks.

Hi to everyone. I haven't posted in a number of days, so I just now read through many of the recent posts.

I'm so glad this thread is here. It gives me some hope that no matter how frustrated I am there are others in the same boat. I swear I've been messing with the same few pounds for almost 2 weeks now. I was so excited to break into the 250's but it took me over a month to get past that and into the 240's. Now I can't shake past 247. I go up and down within the same 2 lbs everyday. It really wouldn't be such a big deal if the scale at least kept going down even if it was only by a few oz. each day.

I've tried everything..... more Protein, more fluids, a tiny bit more good fats, etc. I am ashamed to admit that I probably haven't been getting as much exercise as I should though. I've had a lot going on this past couple weeks and haven't been able to get to the gym or out for my long walk so that I'm doing SOMETHING every day. I know the exercise is important, but I'm doing the best I can, even when I do get in done. The thought that for the rest of this journey I'll struggle just because I'm not killing myself every day with lots of exercise is so scary. I keep wondering if that also means that once I reach my goal weight I'll battle to keep it off if I don't always be a slave to a workout.

Does anyone else worry about it.?

I hate exercise, but I like the way it makes me feel. I don't kill myself (mostly), but I do make sure I get at least 3-4 days a week of exercise. I look at it as a necessary evil. I need it to lose weight and build muscle as I do it, and once I'm in maintenance to maintain the weight loss and stay healthy. Once I realized it was just something I had to do and made it as part of my routine as showering or brushing my teeth it seemed to get easier to do every other day. Try looking at it that way to make it a little easier. It's not just for the weight loss. It should be for life.

I've 'only' lost about 35lbs in 8 months. I barely keep anything down how do I speed it up?:( I'm only 19. I'm not majorly big I don't know if this has anything to do with it??

Are you tracking your calories? Protein? Water?

I would suggest getting back to basics and make sure you're getting 60-80 grams of protein a day, 800- 1000 calories a day, and 64oz of water. If you are having trouble with keeping that down at 8 months out, I would suggest a visit with your surgeon just to make sure there isn't a problem. You should easily at this point be able to get at least 900 calories and all (or most) of your water in.

Have you discussed it with your surgeon or nutritionist?

All we can do is keep doing the right things set forth by the nutritionist and remain positive...take one day at a time. I have also decided to stay off the scale so much and let the fit of my clothes be the determining factor. This idea was suggested by a friend and I think it's a good one. Blessings and positivity to you all!

Well, the scale is still just crawling along for me, but I did have a nice NSV yesterday. I bought and wore a pair of size 14 jeans. They were the same exact jeans I'd been wearing in a size 16 since the end of November, just a size smaller now. I thought about going ahead and buying the same pair in a 12 as well, but I didn't want to push my luck. :D

Edit: I'll be taking progress pics on Wednesday and I'll be sure to post here when I do.

I'm not sure if I should be worried but I believe I am a slow loser. Granted I'm only on day 11 of the pre-op liquid diet but I haven't lost much. It's very disappointing watching the numbers on the scale. I think I may have lost 3lbs to 4lbs. So my question is when did you realize you were a slow loser, pre-op or post-op? Has exercise helped?

I didn't lose but 4 pounds on the liquid diet either but that doesn't mean you will be a slow loser. Take the wait and see approach before defining yourself. Blessings to you and your journey! :-)

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
