I had my surgery last Thursday and I'm home recovering. I've been making a few business calls and with the t.v. on, I'm dying over here. Every other commercial is food. I'm not a super huge fan of Sonic, I've been there once. They keep advertising this french toast Breakfast sandwich that looks amazing. I know I'm not the only one that gets these phantom hunger pains, i"m still on liquids for heavens sake. My tummy won't stop growling now. Any advice, other than turn the t.v. off??

sugar free Jello... it's a life saver and counts towards fluids.

This might sound weird but I found that just smelling a food I really wanted helped. I kept craving Peanut Butter so I would smell it and it made me feel better. Granted, this could have the opposite result and make you want food more... But I figured I'd let you know what worked for me.

I agree Jello is the way to go. Also sugar free Popsicles really helps because it takes a while to eat them.

If that does not help, call your surgeon's office.

Are you keeping what you are eating and drinking down? Sometimes people advance faster than others.

I am surprised to hear you feel hungry. I did not start feeling hungry until about week 8. But everyone is different.

I do remember feeling weak that first week and they knew I needed to move to Protein and creamed Soups which is what they did. However, I never got sick.

Great ideas ladies. Tomorrow I will stockpile on your suggestions, they all sound delicious. I wish I didn't feel hungry since I wasn't expecting too. I'm holding everything down just fine, so far.

The first 2 to 3 weeks for me post op I had terrible head hunger!! I thought at first that I was truly hungry when I would see commercials or TV show but when I made myself stop and really think about how I was feeling, I would realize that I really wasn't hungry. My body and brain we're so used to eating everything I saw that looked good before surgery but I was still in the habit of having those things. after the third week everything got much better. I could see something that I previously really enjoyed like candy or cake or a cheeseburger, and not even want it. It takes about that long for your body to do detox itself from sugar and the junk food addictions. As far is regular food goes, The first time you eat something that maybe you shouldn't, and you get sick, you will learn your lesson I won't crave that again. I'm learning lessons literally every other day, LOL. it does get easier. I've heard many people mention that this is an interesting journey that we've undertaken, and they are right… It really is a life-changing thing and a learning event. Good luck to you!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
