I asked my Doctor what size bouie did he use on me, and he said size 40

Recommended Posts

The bouie is the instrument the doctor uses to to sew your stomach closed. The smaller the bouie the smaller your stomach will be. Well, most people are told by their doctors they used a 36 or a 38 size Bouie. And some doctors such as my own tell me the weight lose is the same with a 40 size bouie.

Does anyone know what size Bouie was used on them? The smaller the number the smaller the stomach is.

I was told, but forgot...either 36 or 38. I understand we all have different'length stomachs so bougie size has only partial impact. I lost.160# to a normal BMI so good results.

I never thought about bougie size, now I kinda feel inadequate. Could I have bougie envy? :(

Mine was a 38 French. It's the size of the tube they place down your throat and follow with the staple gun as a Guide. It can still vary so it won't be exactly that size.

Mine is 32, but really that is only part of it. If a surgeon uses a 32 but sews a "loose" sleeve it may be like he used a 38 anyway. It depends on how close the stitch line is. Just a thought.

Mine is a 32, but my surgeon said they're doing 36's - 40's now.

my doc told me he uses a 36

but then he told me there is a "minisckule" (msp  ) of a difference

so i wouldn't worry ;)

Mine used 36.

But academic research on subjects post-op that I've seen finds little if any differences between results, despite bougie sizes 40 and below.

Mine is a 36. There isn't much difference between 34-40, and I think they are all pretty standard. Too small can result in increased complications.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
