Any tips for staying motivated/getting motivated?

Recommended Posts

Heyya, everyone! I'm Mel. I'm 20 years old and have a gastric sleeve operation on 17 December. At first it was really hard, since I couldn't handle the pain medication and every time I even THOUGHT of food, I was repulsed. I still sometimes feel that way.

I keep feeling like I'm doing it wrong. I'm having these incredible mood swings and I'm so scared I'm going to mess up! What can I do to feel good again? Is there a fool proof way to make sure I'm doing the utmost to take maximum advantage of this operation? Thank you guys so much. I'm glad I found this site!

What instructions did you doctor give your upon discharge? You should have been give something about what to eat and drink. The basics are get your Protein, drink your fluids and exercise as much as you can.

It's normal to feel like a mess. The mood swings are normal. As your body loses the fat, hormones in the fat gets released. FOLLOW your program! You are in the honeymoon phase and you need to make the most of the weight loss that comes off fast now because it gets a lot harder. If you follow your program, you are doing what you should be doing and you won't mess up. When you cheat, you only cheat yourself. You can do this!

We have the same surgery date! I am feeling the same way. I am miserable. I don't want to even eat or drink but I know I better. I am following my surgeons advice but its hard. I am going to hang in there (we really have no choice) I know one day I will wake up and feel great. I have lost 21 pounds 6 pre 15 post. So I can't wait to say I've lost one hundred! ONE DAY AT A TIME! WE GOT THIS!

You were motivated to get the surgery, which means you were motivated to jump through all the hoops to qualify for the surgery...I think you need to give yourself more credit. Sometimes motivation is a strong overwhelming feeling. Other times it is so quiet that it seems dormant. Irregardless, it is still there. Usually tends to show up the more we make the right choices. Follow your surgeons plans and if you haven't received enough info...Google it. There are some great plans from medical professionals on the net.

Oh and I had the surgery 12/16 :)

That is amazing, Bruce! You're sort of like one of those Russian nesting dolls in that video. Good for you!

Thank you so very much Bruce! That was very inspirational. I am so scared of doing what I have always done, slipping back into old destructive patterns.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
