Question about travel after surgery...

Recommended Posts

I have to travel from San Antonio to Houston (about 3 hours) to have my surgery (the facility here had a fire recently so unable to do procedures right now). At first I thought I would stay in Houston the night of the surgery but then I got to thinking it might be better to travel while I am still under anesthesia some and pain meds some. I have all the medical support here in San Antonio if something happens. Opinions?

what does the dr say about this? for me when I was in recovery yes the gas pains were pretty uncomfortable. an it did take me about 3 to 4 hrs to finally wake up. about the 4th hr I was up an trying to walk. my incisions were alittle uncomfortable but I managed. everyone is differant. its about a 4 hr drive between san antone an Houston. I have traveled that road many times. I lived in Pasadena/Deer park for 20 yrs then moved north. it just depends on which side of houston an dear lord the TRAFFIC!!! I take it someone will be with you..so your only going to be in an out same day surgery? or are you staying over 1 night? see what the surgeon says (in case you already have) an then see how you feel..that will be the true tale. keep us posted!

My surgeon has made it very clear that everyone who lives more than 30 minutes away has to have a plan in place to stop and walk every 30 minutes on the way home.

I will be released the same day...They are only paying for a hotel the night before the surgery so I am assuming he is ok with me going back. The place is on the west side of Houston and we live far east of San Antonio so we can make it in about 3-31/2 hours. Of course will take a lot longer having to stop and walk. But I would do that either way. Thanks for your advice!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
