King's Daughters Hospital - Ashland Ky

Recommended Posts

My father is considering having LAPBAND surgery at King's Daughters hospital in Ashland, Ky. (I had mine in Georgetown, KY) Does anyone have any feedback on King's Daughters, or Dr. Tompkins and Dr. Wheeler????

Kings daughter hospital in ashland ky is the greatest. They have been a part of my family history. I myself was born at kings daughter. All of the staff at the hospital are wonderful. You shouldn't have anything to worry about? Marcy

I'm bumping this because it looks like this is where I'm going to have to have my surgery after all.

Gibson, do you have a surgery date? I am still waiting and have been since oct 06. My insurance is hard to get lapband surgery approved. Speaking of Kings daughter Hospital, I was there 3 weeks ago to visit my aunt. Again I tell you not to worry as this hospital is the greatest. I come to Ashland to visit my family occasionally. Do you live in Ashland? Keep in touch as it helps to have the support from friends. Marcy

Thanks for the reply, Marcy! Nope, I don't live in Ashland, I live around two hours south of there but since I live thick in the sticks Ashland is the closest surgery center. I'm glad to know that you have a lot of faith in the hospital! I talked to the wife of a man who had lap band surgery there a couple of years ago and she said it was FABULOUS! I feel so much better now. =)

Oops, I said all that and didn't answer one of your questions! No, I don't have a surgery date yet. No where near it, unfortunately. But I'm not giving up!!!

I see Dr. Eric Smith at KDMC...he is in the same group as Tompkins and Wheeler. I cannot say enough about him. He has been absolutely awesome and has always went above and beyond to address every question and concern that I have had. I would highly recommend him. I will see him on 12/2/08 and will get my surgery date then....it should be in the next couple of weeks. The SWL staff at KDMC have been great too. I am glad to live here and have this doctor and facility available.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
