As I right now my surgeons office has me penciled in for surgery November 25th, two days before thanksgiving (so long as I don't get a denial in the meantime). If I was in the hospital for two days i would come home on thanksgiving.

Ideally I would've not liked to do the surgery that week. But if I wait it has to be the following week or AFTER the new year.

Obviously I want the surgery over and done with, so waiting until after New Years is not happening. But do I really want to torture myself being on a liquid diet on thanksgiving??

What would you do!?!? Help!!

Thanksgiving comes every year doesn't it. Once you have surgery you will never eat like you did before.... If you want to keep the weight off. So how bad do you want to be healthy & lose the weight?

I'm thinking of it more as a "do I want to be miserable and in pain on a holiday" than "oh man, no pumpkin pie!"

I have 4 kids, so I don't get to sit down and eat on a holiday lol.

Thanksgiving is just another day of the week. If you were sick, or had a really bad cold you probably couldn't care less that it was Thanksgiving. Girlfriend, you need to forget about Thanksgiving and start your new life NOW! Thanksgiving will be here again next year, and you want to ensure that you will be too!

GO FOR IT!!!

Do it, you can have turkey anytime of year, I mean once you're cleared for meat after surgery. Even ten you might not even like it anymore

Go for it! If possible, though, don't be in the kitchen area when you get home. You won't want to eat, but the smells might make you nauseous. Congrats on making a great decision for your life!!!

I would just do it because this is the beginning of your new life and you can always have Thanksgiving day dinner anytime.

If it were me, I would do the Surgery. Mine is scheduled for the 24th and Its been long awaited for.

I figure, if I can't give up a Turkey dinner on Thanksgiving to have Surgery...than I am not ready for Surgery....for me..on the contrary..I wanted and needed this a long time ago.

Only you can make the right decision for YOU!!

I totally should've worded this differently....Lol

It's not about thanksgiving dinner. It's really not. Seriously, it's my least favorite holiday as far as food goes.

It's more because something about being in the hospital or home after surgery in pain on a holiday is kinda depressing. And yes, it's for an amazing reason. I know that.

I'm just thinking more about my family rearranging plans than I am about me which I need to obviously not be concerned with.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
